V6 for p5?!?!?!?

Thanks Focus. That sure fills up the engine compartment.
Is that an MPV manifold on top? I seem to recall different manifolds needed for different swaps, MX3, MX6 etc

Ther are 2 types of kl manifolds, straight neck form the millenia, and the curved one on the kl and the K8. u can use the straight neck on the mx3/protege etc but it takes soem extra work, b/c the intake tubing hits the master cylinder.

Would you guys be able to make a wiring harness?

Im comfortable with doing all the other stuff like putting in the motor and tranny and all that other stuff its the wiring that has me boggled.

Now it doesnt matter to me about emissions stuff as i live in nova scotia and theres no emissions laws here all we have is safety inspections which require working gauges and lights which i would need.

Id run megasquirt too if you guys think that would be easier and use the stock comp to power the dash and stuff. But even wiring that up is kinda over my head i mean if its as simple as (blue wire to green wire etc) i could probably handle that.

But i know if there was a harness made to kinda make it plug and play or atleast maybe only have to match up a couple wires there would be a lot of people interested. Id buy whatever parts needed and send them to you if needed heck i might even be going to Montreal sometime this winter.

I think we should start a list of people who would be interested in buying a harness... Id like to start this as a winter project hehe... i just bought a beater to drive so the pro is getting parked.

I seen a protege with kl-ze it went wery fast and a 323
Going to put 1.8 DOHC and G60 charger 9-12 psi in my 323 (glare)

NA, they don't need to be forged. We are to experiment with a couple of setups this summer. We plan to be at the Toronto and Mosport WC races, stay tuned...

Toronto? I'd love to have yet another excuse to drive up to Toronto :) When is this race you speak of?

Wow, when did this happen? lol

ditto!

thats awesome!

I have a couple of guys on my site with KL-DE's in their escort wagons. Knew that could be done for years, but this just flew in from left field as far as I'm concerened :)

Looks great! You guys have any video?

Hi guys, I've been following this thread for a while and i've only just decided to join in.
I'm all the way from South Africa and we didnt get the MX3 here.
I have a 2001 Protege5, but it looks like the DX's u guys have there in the front.
I'm buying a complete MX6 further on this year, i just want all my details to come together correctly.
And i'm gonna ask the question that everyone wants to know, the electrics!
I will gladly splice and chop, but i need pin out for both the protege and the MX6. WHere could i get these?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
thanks a million guys

The v6 KLZE is perfect for the p5, anything heavier, like a big hulking v8, would way too much and feel like it want to plow the streets rather than go around a corner. Ppl we making a proper street car here, not a straight line wonder!
Also the work needed to convert it all to rear wheel drive would be a nighmare! Cutting and remaking tunnels for a big RWD gear box, not fun.
So any news on the wiring?
Has anybody got the pin out from the ECU's and stuff?
I'm gonna buy a junked MX6, so i'm considering just putting the ECU and clocks and everything into the protege dash, bit of fiddling and should fit like a dream. At least then all the gauges would work and they should all be correctly calibrated. Am i not right?

Common guys!
Get this project going!
I need a bit more help. I have heard that the 1.6 and the 1.8 protege motor/gearbox mounts are in different places?
Is this true?
What would be needed to make a 1.6 protege accept a kl-ze?
Would i just need the 1.8 mounts or would i need to modify the setup?

Sorry, but I think everything has been said! I don't really have the time to explain the swap from A to Z anymore. Just to answer your question, you'll need the motor mounts from the FS or FP.
Good luck with your swap.

just make it a mid engined car. take out the back seats and put the engine there. 50-50 weight dist. or put a wankle in it! lol

Renalt actually made such a car, a hatchback with the backseat replaced as engine compartment. Forgot what it's called.
