upgrading a 03 ES to a turbo??? worth it?

Hello, I'm new to the board. I'm about to pick up an 03 Silver ES(auto). I'm getting the Ford employee cost which is about just under invoice, plus a few other discounts($14500). I really wanted the Mazdaspeed but they dont offer the discount for it. Anyway would it be worth it to upgrade to a turbo or just put more down for the speed??? Thanks

David

well so far there is not kit thats fully done thats made for autos.....i would go es 5speed and turbo...but thats just me....

Thankz..... I know I've been doing some searching and saw the auto turbo isnt ready. I hope someone will finish it, I've been having a tough time finding a Silver 5 speed here in So Cal. It would be sort of cool to have auto turbo. I dont plan on breaking a speed records, just something to make me grin :)

yeah it will be cool.....last i heard they needed a test car for fitment...was gonna take like a month or so.....

hello silversv650s and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

since you have or are getting an AUTO....don't bother with the turbo.....actually there isn't a kit out yet that is truely tailored for the automatic. Personally....I would just wait and get a speed.

the hiboost and spoolin turbos will run on auto's, although hiboost has not been installed on one yet in the USA. i spoke with juan at legnth about this last month. i'm not sure how many spoolin turbos have been installed on auto's??? good luck with your new 03 es!!! joe

[yoda voice]A turbo on an ES does not a Mazdaspeed make[/yoda voice]

The MSP also has an LSD, WAY more sporty suspension set-up, stereo upgrades, interior goodies, etc.
I say save up for an MSP. There's a reason that the dealer won't give you a discount: MSPs are selling well without incentives because they are the BEST bang-for-the-buck car on the market today, IMO

what adding a turbo wont make it a mazda speed???

Thankz for the reply, yeah I know there are more differences then the turbo, I was just trying to be cost effective since I doubt I will use the speed to its full advantage and I'm saving somewhere around $6k I guess I'm weird, I like the simplier looking ES with turbo power :D

actually MSP aren't selling that great. The dealership in Fremont had 2 for over a month. I think they still have them. Maybe wrong thou.

The dealership I went to(John Hine in San Diego) has at least two of them for sale. A Black and an Orange. Maybe I should hold out and see if they will discount. Though I still lose the Ford Employee program with the MSP

If you don't mind doing some welding (and if you're consider a Spool kit, you don't), then the Flyin' Protege kit could be installed on an automatic. We just don't have a bolt-on available yet because we need a car for test fitting...

I talked to Terry from Spoolin' at length about the turbo on an auto as well. Back a couple of months ago I think he mentioned there were 4 or 5 out on the highway with their system.

silversv650s, if you're talking about the X-Plan, then I have that, too, through work. The reason why it isn't offered on the MSP is because MAZDASPEED cars are, in the eyes of Ford Motor Credit, "specialty" vehicles. The same applies to the Harley Davidson edition F150 and the SVT Lightnings.

I, too, was looking at a 2003.5 grey MSP, hoping to have the X-Plan kick it down to $19,000. Alas, paying $12,000 for a loaded 2003 Protege ES (after X-Plan, rebate and trade-in) makes much more sense for me than $21,000 for the MSP.
