hey guys, Just got a nice improper muffler ticket on my car, car has the vibrant j-pipe back with the more resonator or canister style muffler...balls. its not too expensive 110, cop said if i got it changed i can bring the ticket and it would be reduced pretty much. soooo

what are my option here for a muffler, or what is the quietest muffler that is not a canister design?

so pissed apparently the officer that gave this to me has a hard on for giving these tickets, checked one of the local boards through a search with his name, came up in about 20 threads lol.

also i didnt search if this info is already out there, just looking for muffler not actual exhaust and pipping

thanks

Thermal R&D mufflers are quiet heard them on many cars in person sound good and quiet check youtube you can see many cars with these exhausts/mufflers.

I have the high-flow Vibrant Cat-Back with the tube-style muffler. It came with a silencer that brings the audio level down to nearly stock levels. You should look up the letter of the law in your area and see what the max dB (decibels) is for an exhaust. If you check your current output and it's lower than the max dB, then take the asshole to court and save your money.

Lot of cops will hand out tickets like this in the hope you just comply. I hate cops like that...

option: Talk to Vibrant and see about one of their stealth mufflers. Non-canister and lower dB. I was looking for awhile mainly becasue I don't like the canister hanging out from under the car. Basically the sales person could just put you in contact with a more local distributor and help you find the best muffler for your needs. Good luck.

Oh yea forgot about the vibrant stealth mufflers! Thanks gona look into that.

Oh yea, wasn't the loudness. Silencer was in. Guy jus don't like canisters, says no diff b/w that and a resonator.

Considered an improper muffler.

then if you have anything besides stock you will probably continue to have issues. in some places it is illegal to change your exhaust components from anything other than OEM parts.

I find it hard to believe that would stick in court...

By what the laws state is that changing the sound of the exhaust is illegal so by any doing anything is illegal.

the quietest muffler IMO are the racing beat mufflers
you can buy unbranded, untipped, unpiped universal racing beat mufflers from certain racing beat distributors... I don't think you can buy direct from them though

I saw them in 3" sizes and they are huge, but they're a straight through design and flow very good... no stupid performance robbing baffles

A Vibrant Flat Black muffler got the cops of my back.

Much way quieter that my original muffler that came on my Vibrant Turbo back. Plus is hard to see at night.

That's the same one I was looking at awhile back. Did you just chop the canister off right in front of it and reuse the piping or did you pretty much have to redo the whole axel back? I am still considering getting one. Said before I just hate canisters.
