I was wanting to know if you are able to put a turbo on an automatic 2002 Mazda Protege 5 2.0 L ?? Looking for some headers that give you some what gains in horsepower. Does anyone reccomend any specific brand.

Thank You
Brian

You can boost the auto if you keep the boost below 6psi I believe. Beyond that the tranny just wont hold up. I'm holding out for the WOMP supercharger. There are always turbos for sale in the for sale section, and I know of 1 for sure right now, off of an automatic. Look up SenorCorwin.

As far as a header you can go with OBX, Ractive, AWR, gains will all be around 5 hp, depending on wether or not you want to keep the 1st cat. I paid $200 shipped for my Ractive(removes 1st cat, not emissions legal), through KYMP5.

the trannies dont like it, if you do it you need hi preformance fluid, a tranny cooler. Also suggest talking to lil freek as he knows about beef the ATX in our cars.

Shameless plug VVV

you can go turbo but just keep the boost low to not blow the tranny...... besides that their are many turbo offers available.......

Tranny Cooler... A Big one is a must and yes 5 or 6 with no mods.

With no mods?? It's hardly worth it then.

And a tranny cooler, and some redline wouldn't be all that expensive, just makes sense to me.

Low boost is still better than no boost... (jerkit)

I have question also... What kind of turbo could i use on my AT(always use Sport Shift tho) 2003 mp5 and wat kind of cold air intake, headers, catbak,Spark Plugs? how much HP would that gain? wat would i need to reinforce?

for intake, header, plug and exhaust you would not need to reinforce anything in the car.

what do you mean by what kind of turbo? hiboost, mental addiction and begi are a few of the companies that offer turbo kits for the car. for a mild automatic tranny solution i would recommend the begi. its safe, proven, easy to install and maintain and no computerized engine management to mess with and as good as any kit at 6 psi.

oh you asked for power numbers as well. 6 psi on a turbo kit will give you an extra 60 to 70 horsepower at the wheels. intake/exhaust/header combination might net you around 15 to 20 horsepower to the wheels varying on what type of exhaust you have.

So for now im just looking for Intake/headers/catbak/muffler .... what should i get btw its a 2.0 L. the turbos prbly later .. i just changed tires and wheels ... i got 17's RS subzero look alikes and sumimoto ultra performance tires..... they handle great in rain, cant wait to try it out in dry days ... cuz i like racing in corners and turns not straight away. so thats y i dont think i need massive upgrades.. and also does the mods take away gas milage or add?

when i had a cold air intake i noticed a slight improvement in gas mileage, the engine breathes a little better

Pecker and LatinKings: you're both going to want to do some heavy research. There's nothing much that you can learn from asking a question here and there. First, do some research on how turbos work, as there seems to be a little confusion in this thread regarding that.

From there, you can search the "Forced Induction" section of these forums, which I've provided a link to in my previous post.

Do some research; all your questions will be answered.
