ok i am saving up for a custom turbo kit for my 3. I need 2 know everything that i need to do to the car. What parts...headers, etc.....
What is the best brand, size turbo to use for my application? any and all info please. so that i know what i need when i go to order it. i have 1g saved up so far. They told me that it would be around $3500. is that good? i really appreciate any info. thanks

Read around here for a while or pick up Maximum Boost by corky bell. And stay away from headers.

so should i stay with the stock headers on a turbo setup?

Header = exhaust manifold for naturally aspirated engine. You will need a custom exhuast mani that will mount the turbo size of our choice. Check out Hi boost, I believe they are developing a turbo kit for the 3.

sounds like... you shouldnt be making a custom kit.

I agree. please read up some more. Brian MP5T has a very good read on this forum. Please read that up. Should really help you

try starting out with a manual transmission...that auto tranny won't hold up for too long

im not building it. its being made by a company out here. i just want to make sure i know what should be done to it. i read the turbo tech thread. helped alot. but im not looking for a crap load of power. maybe just run 5-6psi.

I don't know that putting any sort of turbo in your car would be a good idea. First off, the turbo HiBoost is developing won't work with your 2.0L. I'd say an aftermarket turbo running 5+ psi will kill the stock A/T in less than 40k miles. Also, a one of a kind custom job would be required, and it would probably be one of the only 2.0L 3s with a turbo, so even more professional development would be needed. I don't think you could get it for under 3500. Maybe a shotty job for under 3k or so, but then your car will really be taking a beating =/

their are plenty of cars with 2.0 liters that there are turbos on. but since no one is developing a kit be prepared to pay at least 5 grand to have it done right. my advice to you is if you want a turbo powered car. go out and buy something cheap with a manual trans. then work from their.

Custom is alot of fun to build if you have time money and a good working understanding of mechanics.

It's a hobby. Ask me anything you would like to know, I have probably had to ask someone in the past the same question or have found an answer somewhere. I agree about "Maximum Boost" You should read it even if you decide to buy a kit. It helps so much to understand what the hell is going on and where all that extra power is coming from...

ok. i have the shiftronic automatic 3 w/ 2.0L, i currently have a custom exhaust, aem cai, and a dps grounding system. i wont to do boost. but from what i am hearing, boost on an auto is horrible on the tranny....even at low psi. im not looking for a crap load of power, but i want some speed, and i do NOT want NOS. i have been thinking about having the local company out here, Garage Works, build me a custom turbo kit. however Draxas is located in my town, Palmdale so i might possibly be able to talk to them about using my car as a prototype. what do you think? is it worth it to get one built? i AM NOT gonna buy another car in manual. 1. LOVE MY MAZDA 3 & 2. i dont have the $ for insurance on another car or the patience. please give me your suggestions

The Tranny is a dificult thing for you. It's not that it cant handle boost... It's that the boost make more torque and HP and that is what the tranny can't take much of. It will hold for a bit but unlike an MTX... The ATX has a torque converter and it's not normally able to hold much past what it was made for unless it's rebuilt for the application. Now having said that, you can do alot to increase the speed and performance of your car without blowing up your tranny.

The Basic Header, Exaust, CAI mods will help you alot, where you can really help your car is in the Suspension and Weight department. Light Weight Rims, Big stickey tires and a proper Suspension kit can make a car faster around a track than a header and an air filter...

Sorry to rain on your parade man, but I don't think that Draxas would be interested in developing a turbo for the 2.0 with an atx. There just isn't a big enough market for that car to generate enough profit for that kind of undertaking. Now if it were a 2.3 mtx you would have a better shot at having something like that done. On another note, I'm not sure Draxas would even want to jump into the turbo scene. It's very expensive and requires a lot of work and time. They don't even make a kit for the focus and they have been supporting it for much longer than the 3.

Coil On Plug. Dificult to mess with... Cams and Timing Gears...

Actually, you can convert it to wires by getting the Nology system. I did it and it wors great. You relocate the coilpacks, then run wires from the coilpacks to the plugs...The application you want to get is the Focus Pzev from them...
