After driving her a lot today, I can honestly say I have never enjoyed the car more. Although the downside is buying premium gas and watch the needle go down when I'm having fun.

i'm an boosted 02 auto, MPI and i'm getting around 26 if i'm real careful, driving normally..boosting occasionally to pass and get on (and off the highway!!!) i'll get out of OD on the higway if i need some more power/tourqe without going into boost...but it's so nice...i can go mad rich at full out 5psi....when you need that extra HP...bam...it's there...ya prem gas is the killa!!

I can't wait to finish mine. But with everything I need still it feels like it will never be done.
Believe me I know the feeling. It took me about 6 months to get everything I needed, and in the end I was still waiting on a part or two. Just stay diligent in purchasing a peice here and there and you'll have most of what you need before you know it! ;)

Did you get an oil pan or still using your stock?

Oh and I haven't said it yet but congrats on the install. Glad everything went smooth.

Yea, the water lines are all hooked up. The damn banjo assembly was what held me up so long. It hooks up to the water pocket in the back of the block. I didn't do the oil cooler, but I def want to put one in asap. I see an oil cooler install meet in our future. ;)

Ok, found a quirk that I found really odd. I had an a/f gauge prior to the turbo install, always worked fine. When I put in the turbo I had to disconnect the black wire that ran to the o2 sensor for the a/f gauge, and I never touched the purple wire. I reconnected the black wire to the o2 sensor but the gauge doesn't work, just sits pegged all the way rich. I traced the purple wire going into the hole in the firewall, but didn't see where it was going to inside the engine bay. I just took a quick look, so I'm going to get a better look tonight after work to see where it goes. Anyway, last night I was adjusting my side view mirrors and the a/f gauge lit up like a xmas tree! Everytime I touched the little pad to move the mirror, every light on the a/f gauge lit up, odd! Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I'll report back when I find the culprit.

crazy!!! you've got a bad connection somewhere....recheck all the connects and redothem as necessary...sounds like the power wire is some how being effected by the mirror switch when it draws power...check all the wires again when you get home

How easy was it to tune your MPI?

well, if you know what your doing not to bad...i actually had a lot of great help from bigg tim and terbow. it's one of these things, for me anyway, that you have to get the hang of...i still haven't yet, although i mess around with it and always go back to my saved map!!

A question about 5th gear. I've heard from a few of you that boosting in 5th isn't such a wise idea. I took my car on the highway for the first time yesterday. When I'm in 5th, I barely hit the pedal and the boost starts creeping up. I can keep it out of boost, but it's so hard to get up to a comfortable speed feathering the pedal, trying to stay out of boost. Is it really that bad to boost even a little in 5th. Obviously I'm not looking to hit WOT, I just wanna be able to press the pedal normally and not worry about spilling engine parts all over the highway. Thoughts? Also, I tried using the cruise control and it seemed to be fine. It automatically let off the pressure and I was cruising w/o boosting. If I hit the accel button, it would jump into boost, so I just used the pedal to accelerate. Is using cruise good/bad/indifferent on a boosted protege? Thanks in advance guys!

hey justin,

all turbo'd cars i have driven with boost guages show that you get into full boost when giving gas on the highway in 5'th gear.......i am not sure about aftermarket kits on the P5 though.....i am super jealous of your P5 now!

i don;t have that issue, i mean i can hit boost in OD/5th gear but i can cruise along and pick up speed with out go into boost, maybe 1 psi+-. there are two schools of thought on this...i hear don't and then i hear no big deal...?

So around +-1 psi should be ok? I've been trying to keep it under -10 VAC... I guess being too cautious is a good thing though. :)

Boosting in 5th puts a lot of load on on the motor (read: "our weak rods") - just use good judgement. WOT in 5th for extended periods for example could spell trouble. Used sparingly during day-to-day normal driving and you should be OK. I don't know what you consider "normal" however ... (laugh)

hey, i'm no expert here, but that seems overly cautious to me...
