Tuned ECM's

I know its coming up on a year for the MS6, but I still have yet to see any aftermarket company offering a chip for them. I know there are exhaust systems, cold air intakes, suspension stuff, and bov's. I've heard multiple times that there are companies "working on it". A month after the Audi A3 came out with the 2.0t FSi someone already had a chip for it. If the 2.3 DISI is going to be Mazda's bread and butter powertrain when are the aftermarket companies going to make stuff for it?

I know I am new to the Mazda scene and don't know about their tuner companies all that much, but I would have thought that with in a year they would have a performance computer from them by now. Especially now that Mazda is making the MS6 and MS3 both with the same engine. The MS3 is going to be a hit if they actually advertise it. Plus the MS3 is only 11hp less then the MS6 and its only real competition is an Audi A3 which even if you get the Sline 3.2l the MS3 should wipe the floors with for almost half the price. Yet no tuner company having a chp for the 2.3 DISI just makes me look a little bit harder towards the Subaru legacy GT spec B.

well I've offered a few times to put in the R&D to make a version of our AFCs for the ms6, but I always get wishy washy responses...I could have a tested and finished product ready for order by February if there was a sizable demand to merit the investment...

If you sit around and wait for people to commit It will never happen...Just do it and Im pretty freakn positive that youll sell. There are a ton of people out there that want to tune this car, but if every vendor is seeking a commitment nothing will ever get done. My advice, be the first to put it out, be the best priced and prove your gains. A good product will sell itself especially if there is a need/want.

no no no, you guys are forgetting. the 2.0t thats in the gti, jetta, passat, a4, and a3 was out in europe in 2004. it didnt come here for a full 2 years after. that gave the euro tuning companies such as apr, giac, revo tecnik, etc. a full 2 years to work on them before needed to introduce them to the US market.

the 2.3disi turbo is out for one year and already companies like xede and cobb are doing there things. i personally am waiting for cobb, since i know how amazing they were with subies.

Thats kinda risky. I've seem half a group buy flake. Another thing to take into account is the 6 community(onine in general) is a verry small portion to all the speed 6's sold in north america. Of that percent, less than half are willing to pay for the upgrades. Best bet is to get people together to show intrest. Make shure you add in the flake factor in the event 10 are made, at least 7 or 8 are purchased. Alot of the flakes are people who originaly wanted to help out by shoing intrest but w/o the intent to ever buy.

This car does not have the same crowd, pull or following as the the two bread winners for the aftermarket from Mazda. The Miata and RX-8/RX-7 are a whole different bread of owner. The market is there and the cars are built in much more quantity than the MS6 and MS3.

With that, you also factor in the actual desire for parts. It is not there. The 3rd gen Protege had nothing out when the MP3 hit the market. It is now five years later and there is still a very limited market for the car (when compared to the Miata, RX-8 and particularly anything Honda), even with the MSP being built.

The last part is the general knowledge base of the crowd buying and modding these cars. I hate to say it, but most people who want to mod their MS6/MS3/MSP seem to have a poor grasp of the language and have trouble getting across what they want.

Most people here seem reasonably intelligent. But that is because you use the board regularly. Other people who contact these companies strictly via e-mail can barely form a coherent sentence. I'm sure you've seen some of the posts on here from people like that. People scratch their heads wondering what the heck the person was trying to say.

After all of this, there are parts coming for the MS6. It will be slow and limited partly due to the market, and partly due to Mazda. In time, there will be some of things you are looking for. They will be more expensive on average then the typical Miata parts because of the lack of volume. But, most times that extra cost is getting you a solid part that will function for the life of the car.

Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now...It's just annoying that the other cars in Mazda's line up don't get the love the Miata and RX-8 get, given the devoted fan base for the 6 the 3 and so on.

Let's see, I've got a turbo kit installed, I'm getting an XEDE (piggy back EMS) installed and I've got a cold air, BOV and custom exhaust. What more do you want?
:)

hehe, but 4dr you must remember $1g for a piggyback system is a little expensive for the avg speed tuner...protegegarage actually has quite a few parts out already for the ms6, and has a secret product in the mix that I know many of you will be drooling over that I was priveledged enought to know about....

On that note I also know for a fact the AFC will be well under the $500 mark as usual for my products.

As many have noted many of us vendors on here don't make our products to pay our mortgages...myself in particular the only reason I sell AFCs is b/c I had an overwhelming response to the one I made for myself to solve my own issues I was having with the lack of aftermarket support, NOT b/c I wanted to make money. So the whole build it and they will come philosophy has little to no impact on my decision to make a product. I make a product when I get a response from my fellow tuners and friends on here that they would like something to help them out.

I guess I'm looking at the tuning, two-step rev limiter and no lift-shift functions along with multiple on board maps. I paid over $500 just for my ignition on my Impala!!!
:)

Nice I am interested in a afc for my ms6. If there is an option on a group buy I am interested. Will this afc be plug n play or cut and splice?

More than likely cut and splice like the msp version..but the instructions are very detailed and its only a few wires...very simple to do... If there is a GB ProtegeGarage will more than likely be organizing it.
