tree: 1, p5: 0 - p5 curse strikes again (PICS)

as much as I love having that rear window wiper, for the reliability factor I might try to go the msp route rather than piecing together a kit and modding things to make it work on the p5. we'll see though. if I can get a good deal on a p5 I wouldn't mind doing that either, but I think the msp might be cheaper than p5 + turbo

wow i just realized thosed are the headlights i made. glad you're okay man. try and keep those projectors! at least cut them out

Sad news! $10k is a nice chunk of change for a P5...is that after they subtract your deductible and with the mods on or off? How many miles did you have on her? At least you won't be left without any options, but I'll miss your P5...

I'm gonna try to get them out on Monday. hopefully the shop will let me take them.

that's after the deductible, and with mods, but I doubt they took them into account when estimating (i.e. msp lip, struts and springs, msp catback, etc.)

Sad that all those parts are leaving!

I really like the yellow MSP!
That would probably be enough fun to take the place of the P5.

someone is gonna find a treasure at a junkyard or auto auction or something though!

bad news everybody...

I just got off the phone with State Farm. The adjuster was wrong - the estimate came in at $8000, and that's only after the visual inspection. So the "actual" costs of repairing the car would be more once the car starts getting torn down. The car is totaled.

After all the taxes and deductible and everything, State Farm is able to cut me a check for $10k for the car. If I decide to buy it back, they'll give me the car and $8200. As much as I want to repair the car because I love my p5, I don't really have to time to make it work. Plus it will have a salvaged titled which means balls for resale value. Furthermore, CT law makes it really difficult to register the car once it's been repaired. Once the car has been repaired, I can't drive it to the DMV, I have to have it flatbedded to the DMV for inspection. And then if it passes, I can finally register it.

So after all is said and done, I think it would be best to call it totaled and just take the cash and look for another car. Unless anybody has any really clever ideas...

So you don't think you can get more than $1800 by parting-out?

I probably could, but I travel about 8 months out of the year for work. It would take me forever to recoup the costs I think, not to mention my landlady would get mad at me for having a broken down car in the parking lot behind the apartment lol. If I had a private 2-car garage I'd think about doing it...

just be careful when buying a used MSP...you dont know how it was treated and we know how well the engines hold up after abuse....

I Baby mine. Too bad its not the MSP version...

Wanna buy my 02.5 ES?

...But then my wife would kill me.
She loves the car.

not really no, i mean if it has any mods on it i'd walk away, but that doesnt assure anything as it could have been put back to stock...

Is there a way to have a Mazda dealer pull the work done on a specific VIN car? If so, that might be nice to have - see if any warranty work has been done on the car.

there's a blue msp near my work that had a FS sign on it a month or so...i hadn't seen it in the last few weeks so i thought it was sold, well i saw it this morning on the way to work...no sign? maybe it's still for sale...if you want i'll stop and ask about it on the way home tonight??? let me know jeff. mark

I know that Saturn can do so...I don't see that any other car brand should be any different.

I've seen a 2003.5 MSP in Titanium for sale down the road from me for a few days now. Not sure of the mileage but it looks clean from the road and is selling for $12,995 (a dealer). I'm sure there are others between here and CT, though...

if it's not too much trouble, that'd be great! Thanks Mark! (cool)

Thanks for letting me know! I think I'm trying to stay a little under that price though...and I'm not sure if the dealership would be willing to go for 10k?

I'm sure if you walked in with $10,000 they would be willing to work with you pretty good
