Transmission on Cold Mornings...

Hi guys!

Just noticed that my transmission shifts slightly hard from 1st to 2nd gear (it just hesitates for a slight millisecond and then "kicks" to the next gear with a very slight shake -- barely noticeable) in the cold mornings for the first half mile or so, and then shifts silky smooth after that...

I don't have a video of the sound, sorry... but I did check the transmission fluid and it is full and looks fine (at least to me):

The car is old (230k) and I don't drive it a ton (6k a year), and I know that transmissions eventually start to slip...

I'm hoping to make it to 2017 for the mass market Tesla Model 3, and I don't necessarily want to spend thousands keeping this ancient transmission in "mint" condition.

Could it have something to do with the fuel injector or not getting enough gasoline in the morning to rev high enough to shift?

Do I need to have the Idle Air Bypass adjusted again (I had adjusted it manually a few months ago)?

Any help and/or tips would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Ty

If it only does it when its cold, and you first start driving. Its probably just the fluid still cold, and the viscosity is still very high.

Yes, I think you may be right...

Obviously, any "thump" in a transmission is never a good thing... but would this cause serious damage, or is it "normal"?

Cheers,

Ty
