Well last Friday (21st) my transmission ate it again (First time>>> http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=33367.0)
I was heading up an on ramp and shifted at about 5k from 3rd to 4th. When I let out the clutch I had no 4th gear. No noise no nothing. It was as if I was in neutral. I shifted up into 5th and pulled the hill I was on then tried to shift back into 4th and nothing. No noise no grinding just no 4th gear... As I entered the off ramp I needed a lower gear so I tried to shift to 3rd or second and the shifter was completely froze in position. Luckily I was able to roll onto a flat turn out area off the road way.
I sat there thinking WTF? The car was running fine, Shifting fine then suddenly no 4th... I have heard broke gears before and this is usually accompanied with a very loud noise and or vibrations. This time there was nothing.
So I thought I may have broken the shift linkage.
I tore the console apart after getting the car towed home and the shift selector cable was frozen up.
Yesterday I had it towed to the shop and today they called with a quite unbelievable diagnosis. They say that all the teeth were shaved off of 4th gear. Ever single tooth.
I find this incredibly hard to believe as like I said before there was no sound no grinding or any other indicators at all.
I really don't drive this car hard at all. So this is a big shock to me. I've been driving manual transmission cars for 17 years now and have never had problems like this.
I hope to have the car fixed soon. I was supposed to meet up with Juan to have a new manifold and exhaust system as well as a few other parts installed but now I am wondering if it will be possible.
Ill posts back with some photos and what not later.
