Transistor horns problem.

Hi Guys.

Ok.. I had transistor horns found here:
http://www.koizer.com.tw/transistor.htm for months. Last weekend i finally got the time to install them. So, the horns were installed under the hood and the electronic/transistor module was on my left kick panel. I got a small problem though. The module has a TRIGGER wire. The horns will make sound when this TRIGGER wire is shorted to ground. Now our Protege5 OEM horn has one (black) wire and the horn is mounted straight to ground.
So i thought by hooking up the TRIGGER wire from the electronic module to this black wire i would be able to use the switch on the steering wheel. But i was wrong - as soon as i hooked this TRIGGER wire to the black wire off the OEM horn my transistor horns started to blast. Tried to unhook the OEM horn and hooking this TRIGGER to this black wire ... same thing happaned.

So right now i m using a separate switch to activate my transistor horns.

Do you guys have any idea why this is happening?
Anyone has any idea where or what wires coing out from the horn switch on the steering wheel? Did not get the chance to take it apart yet. I don't like to use two switches for horns.

Basically i want to replace my OEM horn with this transistor horns but i want to use the switch on the steering wheel.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Thanks.

I think the stock horn has a positive trigger and yours as you know is a negative.
Use a single pole double throw relay. If you don't know where to get one, most car audio shops stock them and you can order them really cheap from www.partsexpress.com

Attach the black wire to terminal 86.
Attach a wire that is grounded to terminal 85
Attach the trigger wire for your horn to terminal 30.
Attach another wire that is grounded to terminal 87. This can be a jumper from terminal 85.

Basicly when you hit the button on the steering wheel the positive trigger will throw the switch in the realy over and send the ground singla to the trigger input of your new horn.

Enjoy! (thumb)

Actually, when I installed my alarm in my Protege ES, there was a negative trigger brown wire in the steering column. Just take the plastic surround off and you will see a brown wire running alongside the wires for the SRS airbag system.

Easier but not as much fun!

If mazdadan is right and the wire at the steering wheel is a negative trigger then all you have to do is splice in tou new horns trigger and your down. Try his suggestion first.

That's right...everybody should learn the fun of relays!

One time I had a new guy in the bay and a old set of alarm relays. He mentioned he had done a few so I gave him the old set told them it was new and was to be installed on the car coming in. I then pulled Every wire off the relays and told him to put them back on as they needed to be.

I have never seen a human sweat like that before. I told him I was kidding so he didn't pass out. :D
