tranny questions...

ive been reading in several threads lately that aorund 215-220 whp the clutch kinda starts to go and people are breaking their lsd's in half. is it driving habits or can the transmission/clutch just not take this kinda power. i read in the sport compact car article that power was kept low to protect the transmission. im hoping to hit 215whp or so and i dont want my tranny to go, so what other mods should i do (if any) to protect my transmission and clutch.

Well to start I would upgrade the clutch and flywheel. Then you may want to look into a new lsd later on.

upgrading the clutch and flywheel would only increase power transfer to the transmission. My stock clutch had over 100-120 quarter mile passes, and around 7k. miles on it. There is nothing wrong with it, I just replaced it when the lsd split and I had the tranny out anyways. I suggest replacing the lsd with a quaffie.....then selling me your stock one. I have a couple ideas on how to keep them together.

from what i have gathered, the more the clutch slips the less strain on the trans but it puts less power down to the wheels if it slips as well. Thats why on some 4wd cars like the 1990 protege 4wd the clutch is not designed to hold the power very well to save the trans from destruction, same with the 323gtx.thats how i understand it, maybe im wrong here being in a fwd application.

also gm synchromesh is apparently "teh rock"

Oh yea like what? Tig weld the seam at the ring gear? I think Turfburn on here did that already but on the revised version.

where can i research a quiaffe (sp?) at? and possibly where could i order one from. ill definitely be looking into this. thanks for the responses.

Actually I was looking at my old one before they had to send it back, there's plenty of room to add renforcment to the actual cone. Corksport carries the quaffie.
