Tranny Max Power

What the most power that has been seen with the Stock tranny? and what would be the max? How can one go about fortifying the tranny?

i think kenetix is still running the stock tranny and he's putting down some impressive numbers. if you want to build up the tranny, get a new clutch and flywheel. i don't know what else to do...haven't learned much about trannys yet.

I don't know where you could get upgraded gears and synchros for the tranny, but that would be pretty important, too, provided you were putting down enough power for it to matter. I think the best way to approach the tranny issue is to find some car that a similar style tranny can be sourced from. IE, side mounted, same bolt pattern as the stock G15 transmission, with similar bolts/studs for the flywheel and similar surface area to allow for the clutch to work. Also, the hydraulic systems would need to be comparable. If anyone out there has any info on ideas for the G15, or possibly a different tranny all together (6 speeds! Whoo!), it'd be verily appreciated if you could post it here. =)

I'm putting down 341 lbs torque at the wheel and have yet to have a tranny issue. Beefier clutch would help, mines slipping so I'm looking into an ACT 4 puck. I really wouldnt advise to heavy of a clutch as pedal pressure will be greatly increased. For those that don't care about your leg getting tired I'd go for it.

why are you looking for a pucked clutch? you can get an upgraded pressure plate with a full faced disk that will have less harsh engagement, be more streetable, be more kind to your tranny, and hold more power then our car will ever make. just wondering if you want your car to be a track car or if there is some other reason you are looking at a pucked clutch.

most 500+hp dsm guys still use a street disk, pucked disks break more trannies. an act2600 pressure plate (they call it the xtreme i think) and a street disk will hold the power just fine while being much more streetable and break less things. i have just seen a lot of fwd guys put in a pucked clutch just because they think it will help, break trannies, then wonder why they keep breaking them.

When the need arises for me getting a 4-puck the car well hardly ever be street driven. I understand about a disc holding up fine, but I prefer to go overboard when it comes to clutches. I've been using a 4- puck in my RX-7 for over 2 years now and havent had an issue. The reason I prefer a puck is that I usually use a sprung pressure plate to ease the clutch engagement. Therefore the engine/transaxle mounts tend to hold up better. Also when using a heavier clutch I tend to have my flywheel surfaced more. Being the protege is a fwd car, the transaxle shouldn't be so hard to remove. I remember taking the AWD tranny out of my Alltrac and it was a b****. FWD and RWD is a piece of cake now.

500 + eh? Well when you reach those levels you might want to buy a diaper before you get the clutch.
