TPMS Warning

Yesterday morning, the TPMS warning dinged. Shutting it off and restarting did not "fix" it. The tires looked fine (as radials will). When I got home, sure enough - the RF was down to 24#. Pumped it up and the alert went off.

All good on the ride to work, but it alerted again when it was time to go home. "OK, something's up". Discount found a roofing nail. All fixed now.

I check my tires whenever we have radical temperature changes, or about monthly, but this one occurred "out of the blue". For those who cast disparaging remarks about the TPMS, I for one am glad it was there.

Same exact story here. I love the tpms.
Had a nail/slow leak. When I filled the tire the light didn't go out til I got to the exact psi rating on the tire. When it dropped one psi below that rating it came back on, thus allowing me to gauge how fast the leak was. Made it all the way home before it came on. New tires next day.

Well they were pretty bald when I got the car. First half inch of snow put me into a curb.
Then the nail incident was enough. The rears were really bald, probably rotated from the front. Never lost the rear end of a fwd car in the snow before. The road curved left and the right side sloped, car kept going straight til the wheels hit the curb.needless to say it sucked.

I hate TPMS. Mine went off shortly after getting the car. I think there were 29 psi in the tires. As far as I'm concerned I'll put normal valve stems in and pull the stupid bulb.

My TPMS worked well right before I needed new tires. They "looked" fine, but they were dangerously low.

I couldn't find detail info about the TPMS in the manual. Does anyone know how low the PSI needs to be before it's supposed to alert you? I bought a used MS3 last month and when I checked the tires a couple weeks ago they were all a couple PSI low...one was at least 5 PSI off from recommended specs. I did read that if there was a TPMS malfunction that the light in the instrument cluster would blink for a minute upon start up but mine didn't do that. Does "malfunction" also include sensors with dead batteries?

TIA.

29 psi is low enough to be a problem. Why would you hate a system like that?

The system is pretty picky. Mine has gone off both low and high. You would get a malfunction if the receiver lost track of a sensor. The sensors turn off to save the battery. After the nail repair, it took a minute or two for the alert to go away.

My TPMS just went off a couple days ago. After checking the pressure, 3 tires were perfect except for my front left which was at 24psi. Definitely glad it let me know. Could have found out in a much worse way...
