Top speed of the MSP

Brian MP5T said:
Your speed is determined by the radius of the tire and the rotational speed of the tire. The tire speed is based on the speed of the shafts and the shafts spin the speed of the Diff. Depending on what gear you are in (Lets say 5th) a car with 100 Hp and a car with 6000Hp will both top out at the same speed if the tranny gearing is the same... "Your redline" will determine how fast you can go. Once you hit it, you must stop or your engine will be destroyed quickly. Unless you change the redline or the gearing in the car, no matter how many more HP you think your "Mods" have givien you, the car will simply not go any faster.

...It will however get to the top speed faster.

.........this is were your final drive comes into play.

something that has like a 4.5to1 will accelarate quik, but have a low top speed
but if you have a 2to 1 then you will accelarate slowly, but have a very high top speed.

there are lots of things you can argue about one this thread, but the origanal question just asked what the MSP's top speed is from the factory.

I understand, I was actually blown away that this guy would think that putting on a CAI and a boost controller would change the gear ratios in his car...

The MSP has a Final Drive Ratio of 4:1. Which is good, the Stock tranny and Ecu will only let it go to 143mph if possible "No matter if the car is a 10sec 1/4mile car. It'll be limited to 143mph, unless if you change the final drive ratio and Tranny!!!! Other than that "that's the Stock MSP's capable, Top speed" if you can get there. For an Example: my friend had a (Completely stock CRX) topped out at 110-115mph. Got a whole new motor, LS/VTEC with bolt on's with GS-R tranny!!! He pegged the needle at 120mph, but for sure was going faster than that!!!!!

i have official documentation form Mazda of Brazil right here that states the top speeds of all mazdas in stock form.

Looks like the orange paint allows spicy mazdaspeeds to go 153 whereas the other colors top out at 136.

So sorry guys, you are all wrong. Ill scan the document later. Its official. Trust me. It makes sense too when you think about it. I mean the solar voltaic mass of the amperes in the photons from the rays are combustulated in the orange paint which connects to the flywheel.

you're all a bunch of idiots.

That's a nice thing to say in a thread where people are having a discussion on-topic. If we are all so stupid why don't you put in your opinion.

WHY NOT JUST BUY A FAST CAR?(poke)

Ok guys, a little secret, you can disable the REV limiter and the Speed limit/fuel cut at the dealer. Just get the nice lads and lasses at your local Mazda to plug in and disable the settings. I did just that and the car doesn't stop until I stop it at the redline in 5th.

people do this, and we will have stories of people blowing engines at 150+ mph flipping into antoher car and exploding like a pinto.

Alright man, Just to let you know... I don't do this all the time, I did it once just to see where it would stop.

PINTO??? Ouch.

Mazda Type-F5M Tranny Gear Ratios:
1st - 3.307
2nd - 1.842
3rd - 1.310
4th - 0.970
5th - 0.755
Reverse - 3.166
Final - 4.105

Mustang T-45 Tranny Gear Ratios:
1st - 3.37
2nd - 1.99
3rd - 1.33
4th - 1.00
5th - 0.67

Now bear with me here. You can use this ( http://www.corral.net/tech/gearcalc.html ) rpm/speed/gear ratio calculator to determine top speed at what rpm with a certain final drive ratio and with a certain tire size. This calculator is geared for use with mustangs and you can't type in a specific tranny gear ratio so just select the T-45 5th gear(0.67).

Now if you get 0.755(our 5th gear) and multiply it by our Final drive ratio(4.105), you get 3.099. Next divide this number by the Mustang's 5th gear ratio(0.67) and you get 4.626. If you multiply 0.67 times 4.626 it also equals 3.099. So where the calculator asks for rear end gear just type in 4.626. Now punch in the rest of your numbers and have fun with it. This caclulator is just and approximation and doesn't take into account several factors such as tire wear and speedometer error, etc.

According to this calculator at 6500 rpms in 5th gear the MSP has a theoretical top speed of approximately 153.59 mph. At 6000 rpms in 5th it has a theoretical top speed of about 141.77 mph. 137 mph would be right at around 5800 rpm's.
