Top speed of the MSP

You have got to be the dumbest person I've read about on this forum. Seriously. I really hope you're being sarcastic or lying.
Hey, lets watch the bashing here. You don't want to get a rep for making negative posts. A mod might PM you.(lol2)

137 is all you can do.
trust me I've been there lots, and lots of times.

the car may feel stable at that speed, but trust me,it's not.
I slid mine across 3 lanes of highway

137 is all the ECU lets you do!

i like how he says im the dumbest person ever cuz i drove mine up to 120mph to avoid a possible collision, and everybody is bragging bout how they did 137 and he doesnt say anything

maybe cuz im canadian

and like wicked said, the ECU will not let you do more than 137 ... if you did, you either modified the signal or your speedometer is ******. if its none of the above ... can we swap ECU ? =)

I watched mine go past 140 (not much). I don't think my speedo is wrong, and it was a little bit downhill but that shouldn't matter if it is the ECU that cuts your acceleration.

ecu cuts your throttle ... it wont put the brakes on if the car starts accelerating because you're going downhill

one thing i noticed though with my apexi avc-r is that my speedo is off by about 4kmh ... for exemple, when my apexi says i'm doing 120kmh my speedo shows ~123 - 124

I've heard that most cars are like that so that you are always driving a few kmh (or mph) slower than you think. Same thing with the tachometer .. i think it always shows as reving higher than it actually is

It's probably diferen in every situation, I have removed the Rev limit and Speed cut. But the tranny still limits your speed because of the "Red line"

You want fast, get a GT-1, (hand) Sell the MSP!!

ok so the tranny limits your speed because of the redline,

one thing id like to know .... is the RPM the same on a stock MSP doing 120 and a 200whp MSP ?

Well, Yes. Why would it be diferent. The MSP has the same pistons and rods as the normal 3rd Gen Protege family. It has a better clutch and an LSD, so why do you think the top speed would change if you had more HP?? Makes no sense...

Thank you Metal for posting the reality. It's gear limited. The car doesn't cut fuel, it just stops increasing speed.

110 and I shiat bricks ... lol
Also had a quick go with a Lt. I work with. He of course had a crown vic. A lot of the other officers at my dept like my speed, and that's saying alot. It's cool to get respect from my car like that, especially when so many of them have domestics. I get asked about mods for THEIR cars all the time. Some visit the ProMazda site and surf a bit. (and no, dont worry guys... they are not looking for people to ticket or put away.. lol)

i dont know. cuz the engine just works harder and would be able to go faster at a given rpm. i was just wondering.

for exemple, a Protege5 (or any 3rd gen protege i think) can't go over 195 stock. I've tried it ... the car cant accellerate past 190~195, you're in the redline at that point

howcome an MSP with same tranny (i think) can do 220 ? I think the engine's power has to do with your top speed in a way, not just the tranny

it does not just stop accellerating. it cuts for about a second or two. Same thing as on my friend's GM, it cuts at 170kmh, drops to 160, then starts going again.

our car cuts at 220, drop down 5 or 10kmh, then starts going again. i dont think that's tranny related.

mine is like that

mazdaspeed isn't that much faster than my basically stock 02 es(only engine mod mazdaspeed axelback). 128mph is where it stopped at like 5200rpm which means i could reach ur 138mph with some kinda ecu changes. it was done at the michellin track in south carolina so controlled environment. but i did do 118mph on georgia 400 at 3am coming home one night. (hand) i wouldn't do that anymore though.

how are we not mentioning the 1 determining factor here? I have a lift kit on my MSP with 32" diameter tires. my top speed is around 200mph.

tranny doesnt limit your top speed, engine doesnt lmiit it....those limit maximum times your wheel will spin ever X. But as you increase the diameter of your wheel, you cover more ground in X, thus going faster.

Its all about wheel diameter........suckers.

haha its true but your car will not know how fast you are really going. It will cut you off once you get to 137mph, but in reality, you'd probably be doing 250 or something

check this out: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

For exemple, MSP tires are 215/45-18, my winter tires are 195/55-15. The site does all the calculations for you. In my case, it says "Speedometer reading with non-stock tire is 4.8% too fast. When your speedo read 60mph, you are actually traveling at 57.1mph"

first off the question is refering to the MSP it says nothing of modded MSP,or MSP on dubs, just the top speed of a stock MSP.

Your speed is determined by the radius of the tire and the rotational speed of the tire. The tire speed is based on the speed of the shafts and the shafts spin the speed of the Diff. Depending on what gear you are in (Lets say 5th) a car with 100 Hp and a car with 6000Hp will both top out at the same speed if the tranny gearing is the same... "Your redline" will determine how fast you can go. Once you hit it, you must stop or your engine will be destroyed quickly. Unless you change the redline or the gearing in the car, no matter how many more HP you think your "Mods" have givien you, the car will simply not go any faster.

...It will however get to the top speed faster.
