Hi,
I have 2013 cx5 with re-occuring issue with tmps light. After taking to a dealer for oil change, they adjusted the tire pressure but tmps light came on on the way home. I checked all tires and they were at right pressure so i pushed bottom and light went away for a day. Took to dealer and they said they did reset the tpms system by computer. My question is if anyone had same problem?
Also this is 3rd time resetting tpms system in the last 2.5 years, what happens when my 36 month warranty expires in few months.

Resetting the Tire Pressure Monitoring System is dead simple - read the owners manual to make sure you know how. There is no need to take it to a dealer.


I never let any shop adjust my tire pressures because no one on the clock seems to do it with any accuracy and it is minimal effort for me to maintain. That's the only way you will know it's done properly.

Thank you for your comment but tmps light came up after I have reset on the car and it did not work. So took it to the dealer to reset for the 3rd time. Any suggestion of what to do next?

What tire pressure are you seeing on tires when you check pressure on all of them?

To reset the TPM on my CX5, I need to press the reset button while the ign key is in the start position. I had to hold the button in until the light blinked twice or I head a click. If you don't follow the Owners manual correctly it will not reset properly. ed

Thank all for the input. The pressure were 34 all around. After thevoil change dealer adjusted presuure to 34 and reset on the car, but light came on afterwards for your info.

If everything is still at 34 and light came back on from dealer I would take it right back in.

I set my tires to 35 psig and turn the key to run but, not start and press the TPS button until I see the light flash and hear a click.

Thanks everyone. My issue was not that first time I reset it, the lights came on after proper reset in the car. Dealer reset it on the car and lights came back. Took it back and they needed to use computer to reset. Even though it is working fine now, this is 3rd reset by using dealer computer and I am afraid for 4th reset, at that time my 3 year warranty expired and I need to pay to reset every year. I even emailed Mazda Canada but they only to say take it to the dealer if there is problem, no hope on my part in getting this issue fixed permanently before 3 year warranty.

Any codes or conditions listed on the work order? There are a lot of diagnostic codes related to this system in the FSM. This system is tied into the DSC module and there could be some issue there or possibly a intermittent connection issue to an ABS sensor somehow.

Not sure if standard OBD2 reader will pull this level of codes or if the Mazda MDS computer needs to be plugged into it.

It appears when connected to M-MDS they can pull up the last three historical instances of reset button being activated as well as TPMS light illumination including odometer reading, speed and maximum speed. I wonder if max speed is what occurred on that same drive?

EDIT: Right there... "and the maximum vehicle speed from when the pressure monitoring system warning light illuminated was 101 km/h {62.8 mph}."

my light came on yesterday after having 2 new front tyres from Halfords Llanelli.. The old ones were 38 psi and I asked for the same settings.

when checking the pressures myself they were both under inflated to 30psi. not happy with garage but glad tpms flagged it up. the previous tyre place I used the tpms didn't come on because they inflated the tyres to the correct psi my sensor was set at.

In the future it's always a good idea to reset the TPMS whenever changing tires. It's dead simple to do and, even if the new tires are set to the same pressure and very close to the same diameter, the TPMS system could be on the verge of tripping and you wouldn't know it until it trips for seemingly no reason. By properly resetting it when changing tires it will be calibrated to the middle of the trip range and will not trip unless there is an issue that needs attention.

Ours came on today for the first time. Wife pulled over on the turnpike thinking she was getting a flat, but they all looked OK to her. I tested the tires when she got home and they were all at 40 PSI. The max pressure printed on the tire says 51 PSI but the manual says 36 PSI - I can't believe 4 PSI is enough to trip it but I deflated them to 36 PSI anyway and reset it, we'll see what happens I guess.

I would think on a real hot summer day it would be completely normal for tires to gain 3-4 PSI from driving. Is it really that sensitive?

Just found this::::Mazda6 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 GJ ****** 160470 (produced before November 21, 2013)After many months and 5 dealer trips, a case opened with Mazda, and threats over invoking the lemon law, my TPMS issues were resolved with the replacement of the DSC/HU unit that controls the TPMS stuff. My TPMS exhibited similar symptoms ever since delivery. Essentially the issue was the DSC/HU refusing to accept the "learned" information and reporting the TPMS light to indicate its refusal to learn. As most normal owners would, I checked pressure and reset using the button. Apparently, the button erases any and all diagnostic log information so if your problem continues, DON'T touch the button... take it to a dealer with the light on.Apparently there are general problems with some of these DSC/HU units, as there is a TSB on a similar subject that resolves with a replacement unit. It is TSB 02-001/14.

After last reset by the dealer 2 months ago, TMPS light came on again even though the tire pressures were at 34psi. Dealer originally said my tires were 29 cold, but after resetting and adjusting the tire pressure, TMPS light came up again. Contacted Mazda Tech and they now replaced TMPS module. I hope this works because my 3 year warranty expires soon.

As long as the complaint/repair were initiated prior to warranty expiration, the monkey is on Mazda's back until it' corrected.
