Tires starting to crack

Steve didn't mention how much tread is remaining. If they're well above the tread bars id send em

Apparently the tread left is OK, not sure exactly how much remaining but the cracking and age was the reason they gave for replacing

I just got back from Discount Tire, the guy said there is still some tread life left and that they recommend changing tires after 6 years but that they don't look that bad and I have time.
I bought them 6 1/2 years ago so I am going to wait for a sale and research which tires would be best. I may just go for the ones I have now, the Continental Contact Tour A/S or something less expensive.
The guy at Discount recommended the Falken Pro G5 A/S for $119, the Continentals are $154. There is also the new Continental Tour 54 for $155.
He also said the Sentry Touring is OK but they are cheap which concerns me, around $65.
I would like a more comfortable ride and someone mentioned the GoodYear Assurance Maxilife but my car had a rough suspension when it was new and it's now 13 years old so tires can only do so much.
I will wait for a sale while I do the research.

I wouldn't buy those tires again if that is how they look like after 6 years.

did they sit out in the sun a lot?

The best place to research tires is Tire Rack. They have tests that show the best tires and also have millions of miles of customer reviews so that you can choose the tire that will best suit your needs.

Don't listen to our recommendations, see what the expert testing results are and compare the tires you might want to other based upon real world customer reviews.

I've been doing that as well. Even then it depends on the car as well. A 2013 Mazda 3 isn't going to have a smooth ride no matter what tire I put on, but I still like to read reviews
