tire size

Has anybody tried using a different size on a oem 20 inch? Was thinking going for 235/45/20.

235/45-20 is quite a bit shorter than OEM size (28.3 in. vs 29.6 in.)......rotates 4.6% faster. You generally want to keep the diameter within +/- 3% or so of the OEM size. The smaller tire would also have a lower load carrying capacity....not good.

but there are tires on that size that have the same load rating though.

No, the difference in circumference will throw your speedometer (and odometer, by extension) accuracy off.
