tire popped!! help fast please

has anybody used a tire patching kit on there p5 stock wheels. mine popped and its new yrs day and nothing is open.. will a patch kit work fine, the nail went in through the thread and came off...

I have used a plug kit bought at the local autozone and it would hold for about a week, then start leaking (course spinning the tires didnt help) so I finally took it to kaufman tires and they patched it from the inside like a jean patch or whatever. But it has worked so far.

what kind of patch kit are you talking about? one that you have at home or what?

I've heard you can't patch a tire from the inside after you've used fix-a-flat stuff.

My dad used those "burn at home" kits to fix flats all the time. Seemed to work ok.

I think I would try one of the patch kits before I used fix-a-flat. That stuff is crap. If you have ever used it you would know what I mean. It will stick to the tire and the wheel and it is a b**** to get it off the wheel whenever you do need to get a new tire. I would either just buy a plug kit, that has shoestring looking plugs that you stick in with a tool until a local tire shop can patch it professionally from the inside. or some other removeable type of plug/patch.

YES, I have used the patch kits like you are talking about....they are called plugs....they look like a piece of roap about 1/4" in diameter that has a very tarry substance on it....the kit comes with a few tools.....one that looks like a short rattail file with a handle on it...and the other is the install tool for the plug.....

I have had good luck with these...as long as the puncture is in the tread area....they work fine. but if I had the opportunity, I would have it actually PATCHED on the inside....

I never leave home on a trip without the kit in my tool bag, which also goes with me. Personally....I would rather have a tire with a plug in it then having to run for a long distance on a stinkin DONUT! I hate donuts....if I could fit a full sized spare in my car...there would be one.

I carry Fix-A-Flat with confidence in all 3 of my cars - In the Miata, it's in lieu of the spare.

I say "with confidence" because it's an excellent product, when used as intended.

It is soley a temporary measure to get you rolling again, and in many circumstances, it's the best thing going. My wife has used it twice, once on a day like this, when nothing else was open and once at night, in the rain. It beats the heck (especially for a woman) out of trying to figure out how to change the tire and get the donut spare on the car. If you leave it in the tire permanently, eventually solidify and will likely make the wheel/tire unbalanceable.

F-A-F is water soluable, so if you remove it and do a proper tire repair as soon as practical it can be washed out of the tire (and off the wheel) with just a little soap and water. If you encounter a "tire technician" who tells you the tire cannot be fixed after you've used F-A-F in it (as I did at Sam's Club) then find a better place to buy your tires - He's just admitting that he's too lazy to wash it out, and would rather sell you another tire instead.

As I said, we've used it twice, with great results. Neither time did we leave it in the tire for more than 48 hours.

thanks for all the input guys, luckily sears was open on new yrs day and was able to get it fixed there. funny thing was i left and the tire went flat, so i took it back and then they fixed and refunded my money. so day wasnt at a total lose..

*light bulb*
Why have we forgotten about the roadside assistance? Mazdarx7pwer - why didn't you just call them to take you to an open garage.

on second thought - I guess they'd only put the donut on and leave you with that.
