tints on rear windows?

6%?!?! That's like Limo Tint! Sheesh.

I'm thinking of doing 30% in the front and 20 probably in the back.

yeah it looked good with the black mica though. you could always just go dark and get in good with the cops in your area or get a couple pba cards for when you get pulled over. im pretty well off by me when i get pulled over.

50 on the front is good enough for me. You can see they're tinted but the cops can see a big difference from the rear so they don't mess.

My parents moved back to NJ from TX and my dad got a warning for 35% on the fronts since he still had his TX plates. I'm pretty sure the ticket would be over $100! Most shops will not do illegal tint unless you know someone. Especially since NJ specifies NO tint on the fronts!

shoot.... any shop I've gone to says "we don't give a s*** as long as your cash is green- oh, and sign this release form"

Hah, release form? I never heard of that. The guy just made sure I knew the law (which I did) and he was like cool..it's on you if you get a ticket.

PBA cards rule, I got one on me now haha.

PBA card?

btw - I worked in EMS and if you refused care @ the scene you had to sign a release form - more of an inside joke, I suppose

Hey guys, I live in New Jersey as well. Although I have not had any run in's with the cops, plenty of my friends have. If your front windows are tinted you will be pulled over and will receive a mail in ticket/fine. You will also fail state inspection. I was also thinking of tinting all my back widows and I have a black Speed3 so if you do, let me see what it looks like.

Im glad i dont live in NJ. I have 6% and ive never been told anything by a cop before. It even has over the amount of mettalic allowed in it.

Yes, it is illegal to tint the front windows, BUT you can tint it to a light percent and not have any tint line parallel to the window. If your tint meets these conditions, cops can't prove it is an aftermarket tint and therefore a stock tint. I went to a tint shop in Somerville, NJ, and they have a STi with 35% tint in the front and it's wrapped around the window and he didn't have any problems.

I live near Somerville, whats the name of the shop you got your tint from and how much did it cost. Also, could you post some pics of your car with the tint or post a link if you already have some posted. Thanks.

I live in Bridgewater. What a coincidence!

The shop I went to, but did not have it done (yet), was Auto Creations.

Last I recall, I asked them a firm estimate for all around tint of 30% and they said $210. BUT, they also include a lifetime warranty if the tint fades or changes color, they will replace it for free. There was another thing that came in the package, but I forgot what it was.

The shop is on Route 206 JUST out of the Somerville Circle.

They have a website you can look at: w w w. auto - creations. net (without the spaces)

Hope this helps!

As long as the tint shop gets it done right, they can't prove that it was the aftermarket tint, but rather the stock tint.
I don't know how things work in NJ, but in MA they can give you a ticket for any reason and the burden is on you to prove your innocence. That has been my experience.

I got a ticket in my Miata for "excessive exhaust noise". It's a factory exhaust in perfect working order. I contested the charge in court. I explained that it was a factory exhaust, and that it hadn't been modified, and passed inspection just 2 months before the ticket. The cop admitted he didn't measure the sound, and didn't know what the sound limit was. The cop said "It just sounded loud to me."

Outcome: guilty as charged.

Bottom line, cops can do whatever they want and there's nothing you can do about it. The courts do not check their power at all.

If you want to get illegal tint, be warned. Don't think that cops need any sort of evidence or proof to give you a ticket.

I live in AL its so much different here. I have 5% on my back two windows and rear window and 20% on my front two. I have never got a ticket for it, and we don't really have to deal with the exaust thing seeing as how our cars don't have to be inspected.(alright)
