Tinting...

I want to tint the windows of my '07 (true red) MS3 ... but what percentage will look the best (since it's illegal for me to do the front sides, and I really dont want it to look silly)! Anybody have any pictures of what they have done, or any recommendations in general regarding tinting?

Thanks!

A little advice form a former cop... look into the areas you drive and live and ask people what their experiences are like. Some departments really could give a s*** and others LIVE BY IT!!! 99% of the time, its the cops personal choice whether or not he wants to bust you for it. Highways and State... they are always looking for a good tint to bust. They need a special tool to detect it and can't simply tell with the naked eye but a good rule of thumb is that the two front go with 35% and 20% all around the back. That way there is a slight difference and it gives the appearance that you are abidding the law. But the laws are different in every state so start there and decide. I have 35/20 and it looks pretty good. Can hardly even see the difference either!

28% Solargard all around:

i think ill be going 50% all the way around on my true red. I dont like the way that super dark tint looks on the red.

50% thats like nothing at all. i think true red looks amazing with darker tints when you black out your emblems. om nom nom nom.

let me get another picture. I just did my black emblems, and I was considering like 45% now, but 50% is a fair amount darker than stock. I mean, it is 50% darker lol

im pretty sure stock is around 75%
the glass is like UV resistant and a green shade, 35% isnt that dark at all, still not very noticeable
wish i would have got darker

IMHO, any tint on the rears and none on the fronts looks ridiculous. Are you not allowed any tint on the fronts? Man Canada blows.

no, but Im doing it anyways. cops in my are will bust you if its super dark, but if its like 35%, they dont really care

Back on topic. I'd say a 35% tint is not too dark at all, but gives that "tinted" look while providing nice sun protection.

I run 20% all the way around. I've been pulled over for it a few times. I have also got an actual script for it, so I don't have to worry. I'd say 35% if you don't feel like hassling with the law. Looks pretty good (Looks a lot better on brighter colors than darker) and you generally will get left alone for it.

Thanks, they look great. I really like 25% all around but I know I cant do the fronts (legally). My dilemma comes from my career choice, I am working towards being accepted into the RCMP, so breaking a law wont go over so well! :P Darn it. I love the look. I am going to call and double check on the percentage allowance. I dont like how the tint looks just on the back either.

i tinted the rear triangular windows and the rear window darker (5%) and all four door windows (25%) looks great i think

No pics ATM, but I have 20% all around (except front windshield). It looks great, though I got one tint ticket already and it can be sketchy driving around at night in the boonies with no streetlights. Doesn't help that I don't have the greatest night vision, either.

I think next time around I'm going back to 35%. Still looks good, keeps the car cool and isn't too dark.

I agree with Kain. I got 20% on my Speed, and at times it seems kinda dark from the inside looking out - mainly at night when I'm backing out of my driveway. And where there are no street lights, it can get a littlemore challenging. It looks great during the day and I'll be thankful when the FL summer rears its ugly head in a few months.

I had the legal limit on my Subaru for six years (30% or 35% I think here in FL) and I think that has something to do with how my impressions are with going 20% this time.

I have a pretty solid case of photosensitivity, so, it's all good in my world. I am wearing sunglasses with my 20% when its light out, often inside, and at night it saves my hind end from the shitbags in the SUV's with the HIDs tryin to get all up in my space. Boost can only solve so much.

Tint

Check it out! In California, if you have blue eyes you can get an exemption because of light sensitivity. My girlfriend has dark tinted windows on her black Acura. She has been pulled over a few times and no tickets. Unfortunatly for me, my eyes are brown.

dealer sold me my car with 15% tint (previous owner was out of state) and if they had said anything i probably would have asked them if that was legal and to remove it if it wasn't. i didnt know the tint laws at the time but no sooner had i owned the car for a couple months did i get pulled over for tint. i was at an intersection and had not broken any traffic laws and when i started to go a cop on the shoulder steps out and says "what are you doing with tint that dark?"

in my jurisdiction its not a simple fix-it ticket, i still had to show up in court to prove that it is removed. i tried to get the dealer to remove it or pay to remove it but they told me they sold it "as-is" which is BS cuz it still had a warranty. long story short i paid for it to be removed and re-tinted to what i thought was the legal amount but that got me pulled over again. that tint shop isnt in business anymore and the onus was on me again to prove it was removed...meanwhile i still see cars with darker tint on the roads. some people have all the luck
