I don't get it. I replaced the timing belt on my 03 Peotege5 last April. Got an oil change at a 2nd dealership this month and now they say we need another timing belt. Say what???? This isn't possible? Do all dealerships lie like this? WTF!

Go to another garage for a second opinion! A timing belt shouldnt fail or deteriorate so quickly...so this is BS

Did they physically check the belt?

If not, then my guess is they are simply suggesting that due to mileage/age it should be replaced.

And of course the manaul states to change it at 105k but I have heard some dealers trying to get people to change them at 60k.

Or

Did you get the old belt when you had it replaced in April?

Maybe they did NOT replace it, and now it DOES need it...

Always, ALWAYS ask for your old parts. That way you can be SURE the work you paid for was done...

But most likely, as another poster posted, they didn't even look at the belt and just guessed from the mileage. Show them your receipt(s) from having it changed in April and make them feel dumb...

Good Luck!

Just confimed with my wife that what you described is correct. She walked in, told them the KM on the odom, and they just blurted it out, without even looking under the hood to inspect. Friggen ridiculous that they could simply make statements like this without an inspection. My VW dealership, nor the GM dealer I dealt with in years past, ever did it this way.

No I didn't. And after this close call, I feel like a moron for not doing so. Generally speaking, would it be prudent to demand all parts that were replaced that are typically not immediately visable? Like a water pump? Or some other device tucked in the engine? I haven't made this as a standard practice, but it seems to make sense to me in retrospect.

If you want to make the conversation/experience go over smoother, then let them know up front when you drop off the car that you expect to have all of the replaced parts put in a box and in the trunk for you to inspect upon picking up the car...

Then they shouldn't be surprised or thinking your out to get them when you do inspect the parts replaced, or ask to see them prior to paying your bill...

I agree, ridiculous of that dealership to blurt you "you need this, this, this and this" after your wife tells them what is on the odometer without asking her the cars maintenance history. Again, just them trying to make their $$. They make a base pay, which is usually quite good, plus a commission on the parts and hours the sell/write. So they are just trying to fatten their wallets at your expense...
