The Ultimate Maintenance Schedule

Between the user manual for my Protege5 and the dealership, there seems to be a conflict of interest regarding what needs to be done to the car at particular intervals. I'm trying to find a definitive guide for maintenance. Does anyone have this? Or know where I could find one? Is the manual trustworthy? (because many of the dealerships are not!).

The dealerships are adding on alot of things not found in the manual. They even told me straight-out at one of them (Mississauaga Mazda, north-west of Toronto) that 'we don't follow that'. That was a dealership I never went back to! At least with VW, they are more by-the-book and reasonable. The Toronto-based Mazda dealerships go for the cash-grab constantly.

^ most service-writers are paid on how many hours of service they write and how many parts they sale...

No experience with Mazda, but BMW does the same thing and get confused/offended when you tell them no. Sucks, but it is how it is. I would suggest to just follow the manual, tell your service-writer that's all you want/need done. If they give you gruff, speak to a supervisor...

the manual is all you need - the dealership will add services not in the manual just to make money.
