I know this is nothing new but I went to wash my car today and there is like 5 new rock chips even the paint peeled off in a large chunk (i'll take pics later). My main complaint now is how thin the white layer is, did they only do one friggin coat??? I wonder if the dealership will do anything about this.. This is my first winter with the car and at this rate after my lease is up the hood ill probabaly be all black.. And to top it all off I NEVER even take the car on any freeways, mostly slow driving roads....

Yep. The actual base coat of your particular color is the thinnest layer. The adhesion promoter and clearcoat are both thicker, so once something gets through the clearcoat you're screwed. My hood already looks like crap too.

every car I have had has looked like crap after 6 months. thats why I spent money on a clear bra this time. best mod I've done so far.

I was gonna buy the 3M kit but after like 6 months on a white car it looks like even more s***, it goes all yellow and s***.. and yes, even the newest 3M does it... i still may jus 3M the hood though, because this could get pretty nasty..

the company I got mine from guarantees it against discoloring or peeling. if that happens, a dude comes out and puts a new piece on for free.

Yes, this paint blows..got a couple of nice large chips in the front f mine already. I have the stone guard on the X5 and it works great. No discoloring after almost a year now. I'm going to get it on the MS3 soon-before I lose even more paint!

Come see me at Shaganappi, I do that s*** for a living. I use VentureShield though, not 3M. 3M is GARBAGE! VentureShield has a LIFETIME warranty against peeling, cracking, or yellowing even on white cars and lights. I mostly do Z06's and stuff, but I could squeeze a Speed 3 in I'm sure. :D

the guy who put mine on was bashing 3m's product too. I think he just liked the fact that the avery one comes off really easy if it ever gets messed up. that way he's in and out quickly if he has to repair something.

I've used Avery, 3M and VentureShield over the past few years, and VentureShield blows them all away. It's harder to install, but it's thinner, yet stronger (so you don't get as much of that "line" on your hood) and the end result is much nicer. It's got the best "sheen" out of all 3 products. From an installer's POV it makes me look like a champ, espesially on black cars! :D

Every time I wash and wax I break out the touch-up and fill in the big chips (1mm). Most are small dings though. Anyone else get chips on the top of the car near the antenna but off to one side?

Yeah my paint is horrible. It's orange peeled pretty bad for an OEM paint job. Also, like the second day I had the damn thing a 1/4" x 1/4" hunk of paint peeled off the back quarter panel mysteriously. Its down to bare metal at the base of the back doors by the side skirts too. Suck.

Im ready to just take mine into the body shop using my insurance and have the front repainted. The place i use does awesome paint work, than im going to go with some Venture shield.

I have VentureShield on my 2006 Corvette and it's awesome. It is invisible and stops just about anything!

My speed 6 came with the clear bra, haven;t noticed any yellowing yet, hopefully its not the crappy kind, ut has already proven itself protecting my front.

that must be why my dealer tried to sell me some expensive ass paint protection program...they knew lol.

my silver is about 3 months old and has a few good rock chips in the front lower bumper already and i think i have one tiny spot on the hood. i need to get around to giving it a good wax job soon.

im not a stickler for little things usually but this is my first new car and i would like it to eventually be decent looking.

worse case scenario, the hood and front bumper will likely be the only 2 parts of the car where the paint really sucks and has chips, so 4 or 5 years down the road when i want to sell it, i'll just thrown down a few hundred to have those 2 painted. it's not worth my time to swap out clear bras every other year when they yellow or keep touching up every spot i see, i'll go insane. ill just wait til its time and get the whole bumper redone, should add some value back. (if it gets to the point where its that bad)

Yeah same thing here. I got a bunch of new chips I noticed just today. Do you guys think it the paint job or the paint itself that is causing this?

This is more than likely coming out as a stupid question, but everyone with VenturShield, when you wash and wax your car, do you wax the cover or not?

I don't know if anyone does or not, but I reccomend to all my customers (as does VentureShield themselves) that you wax the film just as you do the car. I know on 3M it will force it to turn yellow and crack though, so only do it if you have VentureShield. Just make sure to go "with" the film so you don't get that waxy white line across your hood. If you do happen to, an old, soft toothbrush can be used to get rid of it.

If there are any small scratches or anything, I use Plexus polish.
