You'll have way more options in 225/50/16.
In fact, the Hankook V12s are available for $216 after a $40 rebate card. I'd just on that deal asap.

The 225/55/16 is closer to OEM that's why I looked at that size. That's a hell of a deal. Just have to make sure the wheels are good first. Thanks!
I've never once considered the stock tire size when buying new tires. I don't even know what the stock size for the Miata even is! I'm not sure why that would factor into your decision.
Does it fit on the wheel? Does that wheel/tire combo fit with your suspension/fenders/etc? Does the wheel/tire combo meet your goals/needs/budget/etc?
Those are the only important questions. Besides an aspect ratio of 55 with a 225 section width sounds yucky.

I'm not running the factory size tires on 2 out of 3 of my cars for summer or winter. For the Protg and the Miata the stock tire choices are slim and prices are ridiculous. Tamz 3 still has the OEM rubber on them but being replaced soon with 225/50/16 vs 205/55/16. No more lip showing on her RX8 wheels.
And Will, that is funny I've been looking at the Hankooks too just because of the smoking deal. Last week they wer $208 after the rebate though. lol My only reason for holding back is they weigh in at 24lbs in that size. 
Will it be enough to notice the additional unsprung weight in the 2.slow used for dd????
Nieces 3rd bday is tonight so stopping over for cake. Tomorrow I'll clean up the winter wheels for the 3 and the OEM Miata wheels so they are nice and shiny for their new owner. Then work Sat and Sun night.

anybody have any use for a pair of Hoosier drag tires with a little bit of life left? 245/45/16

They guy I bought them from was the owner of the black rx-7 that came to Nate Fest briefly so it was nice to meet him. I thought about trying to negotiate a lower price since I needed tires but he already had brand new Falken Azenis RT-615k in 225/50/16 mounted on two of them so I really only need two tires. Score! So now I'm thinking I should find a pair of the same tire instead of going with 2 Hankooks. I'll end up spending about the same for 2 falkens ($150 ea.) as I planned on for the set of Hankooks it looks like. I have time so maybe I can catch a sale over winter.
Now to decide if I want to paint them and what color...

Happy Monday everyone, hope everyone's weekend was good. I left my lights on so when I tried to go out and start my car it was dead. Sooooo, that was fun. Luckily I didn't have to be anywhere important.
Weekend was solid, although it ended with me clipping a deer last night as I was headed home. Car is good, but I'll need a New bumper at some point.
For this week, I have to go to work up in Michigan on Wednesday, not sure when I'll be heading back...but hopefully not there all weekend.

I think these might be track/auto-x tires, I can't find a hoosier drag tire in that size and the tires are marked RR & RF.
Well my phone sucks. Froze 3 times on Sunday and again last night so my alarm didn't go off. I'm going into Verizon to see what my options are but more than likely going to switch back to my old Razr cause I'm cheap.
