The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

That's a good idea, Patrick. I might consider that but with a guy offering to do it for only $150, it's very tempting to let someone else deal with any hassles that may come up with the install. Plus I'm always a little uncomfortable being under a car that's high up on jack stands for an extended period of time.

It would be nice of them to let us know what's going on.

+1

speaking of ass hats, I'm doing a ton of audit stuff at work and the guy running the department we have to audit is one of the biggest ass hats I've ever met. I could run his department better than he can. I have a feeling he won't be here much longer. I've already joked about applying for his postion and my boss is all for it.

It's really not even worth taking the time to explain lol.

Yay for promotions!

I'm very tempted to keep the Miata and build it up the way it should be. First would be an upgraded clutch to handle the future power gains and replace either the input shaft seal or rear main seal, whichever might be leaking. I've found someone local who will install a new clutch for $150, but wouldn't have time to do it until after the 25th. Does anyone know someone (or a shop with good prices) who can do the job before the 25th, for the Corey invitational?

I'd recommend getting the Flyin' Miata Happy Meal clutch pack if you haven't already decided on one. Upgraded clutch and flywheel for one price. I'm probably going to do that over the winter.

A guy who owns a Mazdaspeed6 posted on Ohio Mazdaspeeds facebook group about him going 150 MPH and a 350z not being able to keep up. Which is amusing since the top speed is 156 for a 350, so obviously he just did a ricer fly by way over the speed limit. Street racing is no joke, though. Those MS6 owners.. SMH.

Well I did see that, but I also saw that 949 racing has an upgraded clutch disc (I would resurface my stock flywheel to save costs) for only $300.

You could do that, but the 1.6 really wakes up with the lighter flywheels. In the end, of course, it's your call and what our end goal is. I have my own plan going forward as well.

For those who left the group.

Travis posted about a 350z not being able to keep up with him at 150. He got called a dumbass. After a lot of butthurt, he deleted the post.
And then i posted this (looks like he deleted it already since 15 people liked it lol)

Hello All!! Quick update: supposed to start chemo this thu, but nurse called me this am and my white blood cell count is low, too low to start chemo : / she's hoping it was just a fluke, so i went this afternoon for another blood test. fingers crossed. not that i WANT to start chemo, but i DO want to get the show on the road ... the sooner we start, the sooner we finish and life will go on ..... back to as normal as it gets, eh? i have started back to work part time, mon, wed, fri for a few hours a day ... baby steps!

my story for the day: went over to conrad's on snow to fill up my air tank. pulled in next to a hoopty minivan in front of the air tank. i hear the guy putting air in the tires say to the lady in the van "you said these are new tires?" and she says "yes, so they shouldn't be low" and he says "new or re-treaded?" and she says "re-tread" and he says "they are gone to s*** already, you can see the steel tread coming through" and i look over and see a big CHUNK of tire (a good 4" long maybe) coming off the contact surface of the tire ... yuck and SCARY! who re-treads tires anymore? people who don't have money for new tires, i suppose. i felt bad for the lady. waste money on re-tread and need a new tire(s) anyway ... from the look of that tire, never saw anything like it, that looks DAMN UNSAFE!!! hopefully she only putz's around town and doesn't hit the highway!!

happy tuesday!!

Daaaaamn them some wide winter tires. But yeah, definitely a helluva deal for sure.

I rock that size in the winter on the STi. That's the stock size tire.

From all the information you've provided I would continue on with the clutch you have until it is either slipping all the time or the oil leak you mentioned is bad enough that you have to do something. From your description it doesn't sound to me like the clutch needs to be replaced.

Hope everything goes well with your blood test and chemo Lauri!!!

That's scary about the tires, like you I didn't even know you could get a re-tread still. I've just heard rumors of this like it's some fictional process from the old days.

Dang. Here I am rocking 185's for the winter. Granted a more narrow tire works better for cutting thru snow, but yea...

Anthony, if you keep the Miata maybe you should install a clutch cooler.
