The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

HA! Not these days. I'm lucky they have a vehicle to use for parts deliveries. Besides, why in the world would I wanna drive a Corolla 4 hrs round trip? It'd be nice if they paid for my gas, but I doubt it.

Hell with that. I'm not driving my personal car for that stuff. Company time = company car. :D

Yes and Yes. When comparing the MSP & skyactive 3 they are alot closer than I thought.

weight: msp 2843 vs. 3 2896 (manual)
hp/tq: msp 170/160 vs. 3 155/148
Interior room is almost dead even
Skyactiv kills in the mpg's of course; 27/38 on 87 to the MSP's 21/27 on 91+

downside will be no woosh from the bov, rarity and car payment/less in the savings account, maybe a little more in insurance.

upside will be a working car (that's a pretty big upside), less headaches over things not working, lower noise level (even with the stock exhaust on the MSP), factory warranty (for now),cheaper fill-ups, and not feeling the need to mod alot because of factory short comings. That's not to say some mods won't be done over time.

Speaking of the MSP, I don't know what you're schedule is like, but I'm free Friday after 3 pm and Sunday afternoon if you need an extra hand trying to get it running.

I feel the Protege had more interior room than the 3 does. The trunk is looks quite a bit bigger in the 3 though. Part of the interior "feel" is the fact the Protege had a moonroof and it wasn't avail on a touring skyactiv. I noticed the shifter is about 3-4 inches closer to the driver on the 3, where the Protege had the shifter in the center of the car.

I have a 4 minute commute (walking) to work from my door to the time clock. It is both a blessing and curse, on one hand I spend zero dollars on fuel to go to work and on the other hand I have a lovely view of the shop from my back door.

I have an 11 minute walk to work right now. Half mile from the apartment to the engineering building. 1/4 mile from the office to the cafeteria at noon. Total, 1.5 miles walked per day at minimum.

Could definitely use the help on sunday

I thought I might as well comment on this since we own both. I agree that the protege has more room inside. When I drive the 3 my knees are resting against the drivers door and the center stack of the dash and my knees touch nothing in the P5. Also if there ever came a time I would need to ride in the back I might actually fit in the P5. No way in hell I could get in the back seat of the 3 unless the driver is short and has to move the seat up but I still have my doubts.

I think (Phen could confirm) my commute is around 50 miles/day. On top of that I just go places after work and occasionally up to Mentor (80mi round trip). And the occasional down south trip.

I dunno. I haven't really "gone driving" in the smart just to do it, but I ran the valley all the time in the 2.

Smart gets 32 mpg combined, and that's 80-90mph on the highway and 50-55 in the city, plus my throttle inputs... Which aren't like most people's I guess. I believe a normal person could get 40+ easy in the Smart car.

Theres so many fun roads in the valley, its hard to not take a drive just for the hell of it when youre close by!

Except for that crazy ass river crossing... What's that all about!? Haha

Haha over on sand run parkway? I avoid that road like the plague. Ive gone throigh too many times with my windows down to only get splashed by some jackass speeding through going the other direction

I go driving on the opposite side of the valley :)

Any miata guys have any questions they want answered? I will be in a vehicle with Keith Tanner for 2 hours later, lol.

I drive roughly 50 miles to college and back every day then another, but to work and back it is 4.4 miles, 2.2 miles each way. The sucky part is as being a driver I don't get paid for gas milage and rely on tips for gas money and a little extra. I drive close to 30 miles every night. Good thing it is a beater and not the MSP. Best GM motor ever. Oh wait the Prism is a Toyota Corolla.

I really want to de-badge (de-vadge) the Prism and replace all the emblems with Toyota symbols for some reason. I don't even call it a Prism most of the time. She doesn't like being called by her red headed stepchild name.

Yeah, man. I was headed home from a Mazda meet at the Lizard and was using GPS and it took me that route. I'm driving my lowered P5 at night then all the sudden there is a river crossing the road. Thank goodness I had good brakes. haha

Haha! Dont speed on that road, the park rangers will pull you over and ticket you without hesitation!

ya, my boost is spiking under full throttle and the ECU cuts the fuel. Mods: Begi intake and TBI, FM downpipe w\cat, MBC set to 10psi. I want to know if a ported turbo will fix that and if it will still get rid of the problem if I complete the exhaust and add a bigger IC. There is a chance the MBC is not working properly, but I don't feel like spending $300 on a AEM tru boost if I don't have to.

Phen wanted to know if there is a good cam + head work setup he can have done, or if its better to leave it alone. He thinks he needs to change the valve seals.

Text me if he has follow up questions or something
