The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

what the heck is a virtual dyno? haha

graph looks decent, whatever you did on the second run really helped smooth things out, and run 2 looks much improved

oh one thing to note Ivan, 5th gear is the gear to do power pulls in, its closest to 1:1 ratio (5th is 1.085:1)
doing a power pull fourth will give you a bloated/skewed number, and its not going to be an accurate assessment of what the power is

5th gear? Why does everyone do it in 3rd or 4th then? I remember 3rd gear on the silver P5 at that dyno day in Pitt and 3rd at Mid-Ohio with the swap...

different cars have different gear ratios... it will ultimately depend on each car,
generally 3rd or 4th will get you close enough in a 5speed, and 4th or 5th will get you close close enough in a 6 speed

i mean, lets face it, most people just want numbers and dont care if they are 100% accurate or 85% accurate haha

for example, my mz3's closest gear to 1:1 is 4th gear, 4th will hit the governor long before redline... so in order for me to see a graph between ~5500-7200 rpm's i pull 3rd... its going to give me slightly inlfated numbers but close enough for the purpose of comparing mods or tunes etc etc

4th gear in an MS3 is close enough to compare mods/tunes etc etc, i was just merely lettting him know 5th is closest to 1:1 so if he ever wants to do fine tuning/tweaking thats the gear i personally would use

On a side note, if I was a girl I would have qualified with my high school 800m time for the olympics, ah but I love having a dick :)

SHAMUUUUUUU! Hahahaha! That's awesome.

Haha yea I had to throw Shamu in there. It was a random picture and looking at the graph now, it follows the arch almost exactly haha. It was meant to be.

Virtual dyno is a newish program written by a tune named Brad Barnhill that is completely free. It is used today by some respectable tuners to get a pretty accurate view of what the car would do on an actual dyno. There's a lot of info on msf. It has a correction built in for whatever gear you do the pull in. 3rd, 4th, or 5th. 4th gear is what most people on msf have done their pulls in. I would like to do a 5th gear pull but hitting 105 in 4th is one thing. 136 in 5th is reckless unless I found an abandoned airfield or got ballsy on the highway.

Virtual Dyno has been correlated to the actual dyno on more than one occasion. As long as the log is done correctly and the proper correction factors are used, it will give you the figures within a few hp. I still need to do a few more pulls on another road to verify but this is where I expected the car to be. I can send you some links if you're interested in it.

Good looking VD Ivan! I've been trying to play with it myself, I'm getting some ridiculously low numbers (230hp), so I chose to ignore it and enjoy the ride :)

Ps- V, that was me who waved to you yesterday morning crossing 91 in my old man Millenia. ;)

ummmm, shouldn't only his fiance know about his VD? and why would you play with it? just sounds nasty

well good news, bad news and somewhere in between

Bad News: at some point today, In broad daylight my car was broken into and my radio was stolen. Doesn't appear to be any damage to the dash but I was very upset and didn't really look at it much before it got dark

Good news: put in new spark plugs, went with NGK stock replacements, the cheap ones for $2.09 and changed the coil packs and wires and the car feels like it's running smoother.

The in between news: Spark plug #3 didn't feel like it went in as good as the others (the one that popped out) so it makes me think it might happen again.

Can't wait to move away from the ghetto apartments next door in 2 weeks. This is the second time this year.

I'm so sorry to hear that Nate. On the spark plug thing, you can get a spark plug thread chaser to clean up those threads. Just be careful and make sure to clean up REALLY well. You don't want metal shavings where the gasoline goes boom and makes car move forward.

Going to try to wake up at 6am and try working on the MSP until 3pm at my parents. Hopefully I can get everything swapped over and start playing with the AWR coilovers :) if not Friday morning should be make or break for me this weekend.
