I can give it a shot in Paintshop Pro, but my skills are definitely limited. Although being a silver car, it should be easier than a black car...

Back in the day I sold House of Color paints. I loved that stuff 15 years ago, and it looks as though they have upped their game. It does make for a very expensive paint job though. Not every painter can do a tri-coat paint job so you almost have to go to a custom/rod shop. The base color has to be flawless or the color-coat (which also has to be flawless) looks like s*** and if the painter does not catch it and it is clear coated..... Put it this way I have seen a few tiger stripe paint jobs.
In fact it takes me back to an OLD Suzuki 750 I owned that was painted tangerine over gold base, big metal flake, it look so sweet. Sold it to a guy who thought it was a superbike.... he blew it up in 3 days.

Tri-coats are much more common these days, Larry. You'd be surprised to find out the number of cars that come that way from the factory. Seems our painters have to deal with them 4-5 times a week! Though, we ARE a Lexus and BMW shop. lol There are still a lot of other manufacturers that do it though.

Problem is, regular, production collision shops usually don't like to be bothered with a complete paint job, let alone a color change where the entire car has to be torn apart. So, a custom/rod shop might still be needed, or someone who does side work.

In other news, I really need to check my damn spare parts box that came with the car more often.

I went to install the factory air box setup on Saturday morning, but realized I didn't have a few pieces I'd need. I checked on a few P5's at the Lizard meet on Saturday, and found I needed a MAF sensor seal, air sensor grommet, and a MAF sensor clamp. I immediately thought..."Alright, guess I'll have to check that onlinemazdaparts site or something." So doing that just now, it hit me to check my parts box in the basement....and wouldn't you know, it's all in there! haha

Oh I know that tri coat is way more common now a days from the factory. In fact when I was selling paint and stuff tri coat colors were just getting going, you should have heared the painters bithching about how hard it would be to match the colors. It was funny s***! I was more commenting on a color change paint job.

Mostly because the insurance companies don't pay them enough to deal with all the problems of a tri-coat paint job though.

I worked as a paintes assistant and painted when he wasn't there for almost 3 years. The hardest part about a tri-coat is color matching especially with multiple pearls pigments in it. HUGE pain in the ass and that is why it doesn't pay for the painter to do those types of paint jobe when dealing with insurance companies. There is a lot of back and forth and trials. Painting from scratch isn't that bad though. Just requires patience and a steady hand. That's why I plan on doing all the prep work myself and taking it to the guy I use to work for at his own personal shop. He does a good job and it will be a lot cheaper than a commercial shop. I'll be messing around with Forza a little more today when I get home to find a color or just stick with what I have. Since my car is salvage the person who painted didn't match the color at all and it doesn't even match any of the variants for any years fo titanium Mazda paint. So I'll be starting aminly from the ground up. He did a half as job. From 20ft it looks good, but I can see the sanding scratch marks and fine tape lines in the door jambs. Some of the areas weren't even really preped and the paint that is under the now peeling paint still has a semi gloss. That should never happen.

lol, no just a picture that made me laugh. I used it because alot of the v8 guys on another forum refer to their hp as flexing their muscle so I joked this kid has mazda muscles

ps- glad you're liking the P5. I just saw a post of someone selling their P5 because they "need something bigger" for their 8 week old baby. I was like "Something bigger? But all these cats just bought P5's for their babies. ???" I don't see why anyone would need anything bigger than a wagon. Then again, I don't have kids so what do I know...

oh- and I'll pull those rear hatch damper things off tonight and ship them to you probably tomorrow. PM me your addy.

And another thang, a friend from VT (I think) will be in Pittsburgh February 3-6 and was wondering if the local Mazda crew would be up for a meet? I've never met this cat in person but he has a KLZE swapped Protege (one of the first to do it) and helped me out a TON so the least I could do is buy him dinner. heh-heh. I'll post a thread when he gives me a better date but hopefully I'll see you turkeys at the Lizard one day that weekend.
