The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

yeah still oem, thinking about making adjustable ones. the fron bracket is pretty thin

Thats because he was using Speed6 brackets with some other bushings, IIRC.

I've only broken my rear bracket once. Never had any problems with the fronts. Hell, I don't even really grease those too often...

What endlinks are you using? Oem? Maybe try some adjustable endlinks to get the bar more parallel?

i has speed3 brackets with ms acc. bushings

^^^ Nice. I just read an article in C/D about a fellow who used to work for GM I think and he made a composite shell of and older van, put a diesel 4cynlinder in it and it still got 35mpg. He tried to pitch lightweight composite shells to save weight and improve MPG but the Big Three didn't want anything to do with it. Cars just keep getting fatter and fatter and bigger and bigger. :(

eventually they will have no choice but to do it... i mean lambo couldnt really go with bigger and more powerful engines to negate the fattness in their cars anymore so they came to the conclusion to ever improve performance again gotta put the cars on a diet

eventually the big 3 will get to that point where if they want their cars to get better mpg's and have any performance they will have to put the cars on diets

It's a cost issue, currently. That type of stuff is far too costly to be rationally applied to a mass produced vehicle that makes a profit due to volume, not market prices.

It's just a function of time that it will take for technology to advance far enough to drive the cost of manufacturing lightweight car parts down.

Synopsis: It's gonna be a while. lol

This is the start of it, tho. Pagani, McClaren, Lamborghini, etc... doing the research and and spending the money to develop new technologies that will eventually be adopted by other car manufacturers.

dude.... mass produced cars are fat and porky and could lose alot of weight just by smarter designs without any crazy cf and leaving out a couple "comforts" in cars

the toyota avalon weighs in around 3600 lbs and a friend told me they have over 200lbs of sound deadening in each car.... that car cant be that loud that it needs 200lbs of sound deadening... thats just one example of smarter designs that could help mass produced cars become less porky

True, but the public masses value comfort and safety with a rather high regard... MPGs is a big one that will have an inverse relation to weight that will drive the investment sooner than later. But the performance aspects are a side note as far as most car companies are concerned. At least in the main stream.

I don't mean necessarily using composite body panels like carbon fiber, but why not plastic? Saturn was doing it for a while. Why didn't that catch on? And I'm very happy Mazda designed the Mazda2 to be so light weight. I think it's mostly an American thing though. Americans have to have huge SUV's and Trucks and enormous sedans to impress everyone else on the road. I can just hear Clarkson saying "Ohh, look at me! I'm a cheeseburger eating, fat American! I make more money than you!". But it's not like that in Europe. Everyone drives little cars with little motors over there.

oh- and my mom was in town last week from Israel/Palestine and said the bottom grade fuel available there is 95 octane. They have 98 octane available at local gas stations! She said cars last forever over there because of the higher octane and dry weather. She has a Renault Clio. But not the cool one...

thats what i was trying to say... better/smarter designs can help a car lose weight without the need of using anything fancy

A lot of s*** is government mandated now. ABS, Traction control, hold your dick while you piss so that you don't ruin your khakis... you know s*** like this. It's ******* stupid, all becaus people can't ******* drive. Cars get heavier to save morons, instead of teaching them, and letting natural selection take its course.

we should start our own car company and use mazda engines

No offense to Mazda... but I'd use Mazda suspension designs with better engines.
