The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Tell them no. Unless you plan on working on their cars. haha Tell them that you just butcher your own ride. Don't forget to let them know that the more stuff you put on your car the more stickers you can put on your tool box to add horsepowas!

Well, there are two types of people in the world. Those who plug into a computer and replace whatever parts it tells them to, and those who diagnose what the problem is, determine exactly what piece is causing the problem, try to rebuild whatever it is that may be the problem, and eventually fix the little culprit. Technicians vs. mechanics.

There are also those who work on something as a hobby, and those who work on something out of necessity. I've commonly fallen under the second category. I can't take my time because the s*** needs done NOW. It's also the reason I have multiple cars. When living alone, I once had to rely on someone for a ride when my only car at the time (the civic) broke down. I hate that feeling and I vowed to never let it happen again.

I just say its my hobby. I know some people love working on their cars. I'm okay with doing things for the track car because its the trade-off I have to make to have fun and I actually do enjoy fabricating, but I hate, hate, hate doing maintenance/repair work on our street cars. Have to do brakes on my Trailblazer tomorrow (Hawk Pads and new rotors) and not looking forward to it.

your math is a little off

Just givin you crap, man.

Here's a question for you guys;

What do you call yourself when someone asks if you're a "mechanic"? I mean, I don't work at a shop so I don't consider myself a mechanic, per se. But I do work on my car. A "weekend mechanic"? Just curious. A few strangers have asked me if I'm a mechanic and I say no.

I would say it's a hobby. I don't work at a shop as a mechanic, and I'm not familiar with cars other than my own. That gets you out of a lot of "hey, my Mitsu is idling weird, do you think it's this chevy lug the shop put in the hub?" type questions, lol.

For me.. there aren't many brands of cars I haven't worked on.

I'm starting to think that my friend Leanne's car has taken a liking to me. Every time it comes over, I fix it. It works perfectly fine for about a week or so, then something completely unrelated starts acting up. Right now, the A/C light on the dashboard flashes red and green. WTF?

I like to think of myself as a destroyer of what's stock and works and also an attempted fixer of those items with "Go fast goodies". To me a mechanic can get it done in about a quarter of the time.

Anyone know of any GOOD powdercoaters in N.E. Ohio?

Also, silly question, but can non-steel rims be sandblasted? I don't know what my rims are made of, but they're not steel, and I really doubt they're aluminum?

ROTFL...

I say it's my hobby, and I offer any advice I feel comfortable with

So what has everyone been up to lately?? I disappeared again due to school but am making a return to the forum. I'm pretty set on an 09 CWP speed3 GT as my next car and will hopefully be buying at the end of July once I get a couple checks from the new job :D. And for those who don't know, I'll be moving up to northeast OH for the job. Mentor area to be exact. I'm excited as all hell. I definitely wanna come out and see you guys again. I miss the mazda guys and gals.
