The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Yea when mom and other non car people find out I have three cars.
winter beater - neon
dd/power/nice - ms3
track/fun/hoon about - miata

They always give me a funny look

Aaah, should have known. They never have s*** in stock.

nope, I would gladly order a set if they did. But nobody has any sort of 6UL's in stock of any color. I can't wait that long. I will buy a set of wheels and tires for the time being then I will buy the bronze 6UL's when they are ready.

See, this is why I don't do autocross lol. I just don't get why you would limit yourself to a certain standard. I would rather do whatever I want since it's my car lol. Put a little wider wheel and tire and it fits exactly what I want: looks better and handles better. To each his own, I guess.

Or actual wheel to wheel racing. They all have a rule set to follow. Some people's goals are different than others. Me? My goal is to compete.
Step 1: Find what class fits your goal and budget best
Step 2: Question your sanity a few times as you drain your savings account
Step 3: Get stuck on something and then proceed to wonder why you drained your savings
Step 4: Re-read the rule book 50 times to try to figure out what else you need to buy
Step 5: Keep telling yourself it will be ready one of these days.

I think step 2, 3, and 5 applied to the LS car, right?

Look into Nasa-X events. Car starts out in a base class, each mod is worth X points. 20+ points = move up one class, I think 45 = 2 classes up, etc. I'm going to start running with the MVSCC locally, their events are fun and more seat time/runs in general. I'll still loosely build around STF though as I'd like to run a national event next year for grins.

I knew I never wanted to compete so I built it for me! And yep those are the only ones that applied lol.

I would if I could.... Won't be back in stock till early next year. Well until the release date is pushed again

You should try and get the Mazdaspeed Motorsports discount for the Miata. You should send them your SCCA Reg, and pictures of the car, with the class your running etc., they may have the wheels in stock.

Hmm I will see what they have. Thanks! I didn't think about that. I have the discount with the ms3 already for this year. Also just put through three $500+ orders through in the past three weeks haha

It was nice to see some of you at Menchies Friday. It was funny how much of a sugar high my son got from frozen yogurt.

sad that I didn't make it to Menchies. I was helping Baby Marc replace his rear struts and then I was getting the new motor for the miata to my house.

Morning all. How was everyone's weekend? Spent 3.5 hours cleaning the Bavaria for the BMW CCA cars and coffee event. Had the oldest one there until BJ showed up with his '72 2002. If it wasn't for the rain, I'm sure there would have been more people there. Made a few contacts to both sell and buy parts while there. With any luck, I'll be able to find some of the hard to find bits for the Bavaria.

So when does the motor go in?

Contacts for getting hard to find parts is always nice.

Should be this week. I am waiting on parts from Mazda that will be here Thursday. I am stuck on one last bolt on the transmission before the motor can come out. Maybe someone here can help. The bolt I am having an issue with is on the driver's side of the transmission into the block and there is a bracket that has two bolts holding it onto the tranny. I got the lower one but the upper one I cannot get anything to seat on properly as there is a rusted bolt in the way pushing the socket up. If I can't think of anything today then I am going to use my sedaline torch and cut the chunk of the bracket off that is keeping me from getting the last bolt.
Also this engine bay is NASTY! I think he either drove on a beach or took it through a beach at Mid Ohio. Everything is covered in this sand/oil/grime coating and its gross. When the motor finally comes out everything is getting a good scrub down to get this engine bay cleaned up.

There are better and cheaper options than the ones from MSM. Plus Patrick wants 949's and MSM is not a dealer.

I found some :D some kid wants to trade bronze 15x7 6UL's for some ricer crap wheels. So I am buying the wheels he wants and then he is giving me $100 and the 6UL's

Try a super long extension with swivel at the end. You can also try a set of bolt/nut removers http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-p...p-00952165000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

I have a set you can borrow if you need them. I call them my backup plan.

I think we used a lot of extensions on Will's car and got it from the bottom. Take a pic if you can to confirm.

I will get a picture of it. I will try and get it with a 1/4 inch socket as I was trying to use the big boy 1/2 inch impact sockets. maybe they were just too fat to get a good seat on the bolt. Once the bolts broke loose they all came out like a charm. Its just that initial turn or two. I think I may have one more socket to try that is skinny and 1/2 inch. So I will get it but I just want it to come out easier haha. Needless to say but that bracket will not be going back in after I get the motor out.
