The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I allow food in my car but just realized I never eat and drive, let alone have a designated road trip snack!!

Los Angeles, with another person in a FM II NA Miata.

I drove with my dad and brother from Pittsburgh to Atlanta for the Summer Olympics back in the day. I drove down to Daytona Beach, FL a few years ago with my wife and in-laws. Drove to Windsor for a bachelor party when I first bought my 3. That was a fun trip.

We got back from Badlands National Park in South Dakota a couple weeks ago- i don't remember how long the drive was, but we drove straight through to columbus... and it was brutal.

As for myself, i once drove for 12 hours (with a couple hour break, then a few shorter brakes in between to look at stuff) around pennsylvania. Gone for 16 hours, 12 of them were driving.

I keep a box of wheat thins wedged between my seat and my toilet paper roll (since my e-brake doesn't work i decided it'd make a good toilet paper holder) for when i'm on long road trips- they help keep me awake. A big bag of weird flavoured chips is always nice too, and i once had a big 48 pack of "chewy" granola bars. ahhh granola bars, those are the best... i gotta' go back on my half granola diet...

I've been to every state except the west coast in a car. I feel like I could probably be a trucker sometimes.

From tonight's Menchie's meet.

I'd be an awesome trucker except i fall asleep a lot while i'm driving.
-Story mode-
I once began falling asleep at the wheel on my way home from either aimlessly driving around or aimlessly driving around after aimlessly hiking around, and as i began to slouch over and close my eyes i thought about the car in front of me. I though, "i could get home quicker if i push the gas pedal all the way down, but then there's this car in front of me. The front of my car would probably bump into the back of that car"
Then i stared into the back of that car, which for some reason i remember being a miata although i know it wasn't a miata, and to my amazement i had indeed pushed the gas pedal almost all the way down and was about to bump into the back of whatever that car was. Ever alert, i slowed down and avoided bumping into anyone.
I probably started falling asleep again maybe 5 minutes later...
-end story mode-
(story mode story is meant to be read with a funny story telling accent and over dramatized)

now i drink like 5-10 cups of coffee every day to stay awake, or eat a bunch of funny snacks while i'm driving. Trucker!!!!!!
(pro tip: acting like a trucker and yelling "trucker" can also keep you awake)

nice miatas- i want a mariner blue one...

Haha the blue top on that one is actually off the other guys, we were taking a break from doing the manual swap in it.

Edit: the car on the far left usually has a white hardtop

All these pictures of Miatas has me thinking bad thoughts of ditching my RX7chassis and dumping everything into a Miata.

Normally I would say "Yeah, that's a good idea!"

But every single person in this thread will chastise me.
I say finish the RX.

So that would mean an rotary powered Miata? Do eeeet!
Yep, pretty much. The goal would be to swap over everything I could. The biggest unknown is whether my exhaust manifold would fit (probably not) and obviously I wouldn't be able to use the hood and fenders I got for the RX7. The biggest hit would be not being able to use my wheel/tire combination.

The more I think about it the more it makes sense. Lighter chassis, better suspension, and a better aftermarket. The build would probably be on par with Jess' Miata. It's funny you mention being chastised because as I type this my wife is next to me shaking her head, "NO!" LOL...

Thanks to Evan for helping prep the interior of the RX -7 for paint. I am going to let it dry today and try to paint it tomorrow.

I've never seen anyone hose out their interior before... :)

Jon, if you scrap the RX-7 project then I'll punch you in the throat. We see Miata's everywhere. Be unique and badass and finish your build. I bet 80% if the parts won't transfer over anyway. Your build is my favorite to watch, if you lived closer I would hand you tools on the weekends.

Marc, show this to Linda. But for that chipmunk she hates now.

LOL I think you don't see FCs all that often for a reason. The chassis isn't bad but it's the heaviest of all RX7s and it's got a typical MacPherson strut suspension setup. The only parts I know I'd lose for sure are the body parts (fenders, hood, side skirts, and splitter) and the wheels and tires. The header is an unknown and I could probably modify the driveshaft to work. Everything else should tranfer over. Besides, how many 200+ whp, naturally-aspirated 13B-powered Miatas do you see around?

Mazda's best engine + Mazda's best chassis = win
I'm partial to both the Miata and the Rotary engine.

Come to the dark side....

On a side note I learned a little bit about converting an auto miata to a manual this weekend lol.
