The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I have a 9500ix and it has already saved me a few times on 71. But a laser is a laser and if the detector freaks out about one your already done and a lot of places are going to them

Damn you, Pablo. Woot is so bad for impulse buys...

hahaha... I have that problem with the shirts... but since I'm broke right now I didn't buy the one from yesterday, or the wine from today...

While everybody says that, I've never been pulled over from a laser alarm. Maybe I've just been lucky

If an officer doesn't have the radar on until he want to use it a detector is worthless. I look at them as a "I just got busted detector".

haha could look at it that way. the staties around here just leave them on. I don't speed that often just "flow" with traffic. I just like to have it for logs and when I am messing with someone. I've hit the brakes before when I was racing someone then they flew by me and got pulled over then I waved as I passed them lol

That has been my view in the past. And if that's true, I'll keep the $100-300 for speeding tickets. ;)

You are right, Larry, a lot of times it'll tell you that you just got spanked and there is nothing you can do about it, but when you are not alone on the road you'll get the "residuals" of other people's tears - the guy in front of you gets lasered - there is a good chance your detector will sense it. A cop is half a mile+ ahead of you just turned on his radar - you'll know that and hopefully slow down.
I've had my x50 for a loooong time and back in the day it saved my @ss a lot (but I also got a sh*t ton of tickets). Don't use it as much now as the V is slow as s*** and the bike .. well .. doesn't have much of a laser target area. :D

Moral of the story - it won't save you 100%, but it'll warn you every so often about a potential danger. Be ready for a lot of false positives (even with all the new and improved systems) and don't abuse your 'power' or you'll end up like me with over $300 per month in insurance.

Patrick, people don't get pulled over on a closed course. I'm sure you meant black flagged.

That's like what - 2? Plus the hassle of going to pay them, taking time off work, having points on your license, higher insurance ... I can keep going. ;)

Yep. It's all a moot point for me anyways as I don't drive fast enough to get a ticket. I've had 2 in the past 5 years. 0 in the past 2 years.

then you don't need one. The area I live they only use radar and they will get you for 5 over or less if they are having a bad day. And I have a "suspicious" car so I seem to have followers everywhere I go so the extra little bit of warning is nice

As far as radar detectors go, i have a cheap one that my dad gave me after he apparently heard/saw us on our mini fun run through brecksville. Automatic doors at gas stations and grocery stores set it off...but ive learned to ignore the sound it makes for that frequency

Here's an idea: don't speed. Stay within 5 mi/hr and you're within the error of your speedometer and the detector.

<- One speeding ticket in 10+ years of driving and that was within my first year.

Not speeding ... that just sounds boring as all hell. And sometimes dangerous - like turnpike when every gma is zooming by you.
