The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Does anyone have any recommendations on tire shops around here? I just got a set of Rx-8 wheels freshly powder coated and would like to take them to a reputable shop to mount tires without damaging the wheels. Any suggestions? How about alignment shops?

will they be on for sunday? I can get you the center caps tonight if you want. And I took my wheels to Kauffman tire this morning so we will see how they do.

I'm so paranoid getting tires installed on my wheels... Back in the day I went to Goodyear in Hudson with my powdercoated Konig's to get a screw patched and when they brought the repaired wheel back out there were huge gouges on the spokes. They didn't have a machine for low profile tires so 3 of them had to stand on the wheel to get the tire back on. What!?

Needless to say, don't go to Goodyear.

Evan, i know all about bringing wheels to the wrong place I had a tire cut off cause they could not remove it.

Double you tee eff, mate?

So instead of simply calling the customer and saying "I'm sorry, we don't have the proper machine to dismount your tire.". Hey Jim-Bob, you hoser, get my sawzall, I gotta take this here tire off, eh?

Hey! It's Monday....er wait Tuesday. Sorry, had yesterday off. :)

Whew, glad I watched the season 3 finale before reading Peaches post! If not I would have had to go 'Shane' up in this b****. lol There were def. some moments in season 3 that had me saying 'wtf are they doing' but it is entertainment and IMO some pretty good acting and writing. I like how the internet was hyping up that 27 people were getting killed and 25 of them were from the Gov. going apeshitnuts. One thing my wife did notice was that when the Woodbury peeps got off the bus, they had no belongings or clothes. They just left all of their stuff behind?!

This.

I'll be taking my wheels down to Smokeys, they have some fancy machine that they said wont mark the rims at all. I trust them only because they sell big money rims and they've been good to me so far. Never been to Conrad's. I do lifetime alignments through Firestone.

Next time you get the alignment done, check behind the tires. Had mine done yesterday at Firestone since I installed camber bolts on Saturday. Heard a godawful noise this morning when dropping my daughter off at school. Slow speed and wheel was turned to the left. Didn't hear it again on the way to work and car was driving ok but heard it again as I went to back into my spot at work (again slow and wheel turned left). Parked the car and took a look behind the DS front wheel and found these. Not sure what they were holding onto but plan on taking the tire off tonight at home to double check everything.

pretty much, needless to say my car does not go into too many shops when i am not there to see what they are doing now. can't trust anyone

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll try Conrads.

I had Goodyear in Cuyahoga Falls install tires last time, needless to say they scuffed the OEM wheels pretty bad, mostly in the area around center caps and around the outer edge. Doesn't bother me so much as these will be coming off, but I want the new wheels to make it through their first mounting, lol.

Thanks again!

ahhhhhhh the old get an alignment get a free tool promotion! what will firestone think of next?

You know that tech is going to be looking around the shop all week for that

Yep, didn't even know of the promotion and bonus...didn't need a coupon! :)

I'm sure he will. Do I do the nice thing and take them back tonight?

Personally, I'd take it back. You get the satisfaction of not only showing them their screw-up but also in the fact it was with a relatively expensive tool that would have cost them.

That's one vote for 'keep the tool and make the tech crazy'.

Maybe I should start a new thread with a poll? You can see where the rubber on the tire rubbed off on them. Damn new set of tires too, only mileage on them was from my driveway to their parking lot.

And Jon evens the voting at 1-1 with the 'have compassion for the poor guy while you rub salt in his wounds' vote.

I'm leaning towards taking it back, I'm pretty sure the guy buys his own tools and considering it's a nice one and he'll go nuts tearing his tool box apart looking for it, I do feel kind of bad. Co-worker and wife both say to keep it though.

yes ^ what he said

id rather take it back and pound salt in that wound LOL

But first tell them you have a nice mac tool you'd be willing to sell them

Yeah, karma says to return it. Then you'll get something nice in return later on. :)

if there is any damage to your car due to them, keep em. if its all good, go ahead and take em back.

Exactly, you're the first person that came to mind when I saw the brand name. You're pretty much sponsored by Mac by now, right? lulz.
