The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So what's everyone think of the 2014 6?

sexy as hell, but will be a disappointment IMO without a v6 option...
all talk ive heard is it will basically either be the 2.5 or the skyactiv for your engine choice and i know they have lightened up the car but whats the point of making a 4 cyl. sedan with close weight to the mazda3 with the same motor choices.... i got a feeling when most realize that the 6 isnt any faster but more expensive they will spring for the cheaper 3... unless they NEED the slightly larger car or really just love the styling of the 6

I tend to agree with Mazda on the engine choices... I think that most people headed out to buy a mid-size sedan want that class of vehicle because of the size. If they can get the gas mileage of a smaller car (or close to it) in that platform that's added incentive for them to buy the Mazda6 as opposed to something else.

That's just my take on it. I'm sure there will be people who agree with you about the power as well.

i hope i am wrong and it sells well... but my view point, why spend 3-5k (guessing a price difference between the 3 and 6) more, for comparable mileage and assumed comparable performance.

alot needs to be seen still, cant guage how big it is and things like that from pictures...

I see your point Levi but I remember when I was looking at the Mazda6 a few years back (before we got the 3) everyone I talked to said to avoid the v6. Biggest gripe was the fuel economy. If Mazda was getting the same feedback from owners then it makes sense for them to offer the alternatives with better mileage. As for a v6, they could offer that in another MS6 variant, preferably the wagon. :)

As long as they keep the 6 speed manual it will sell. Hell, it will sell just because it has the skyactive.

The 6 is aimed at the older generation of buyers that are into the Camry and Accord. I think Mazda is looking to meet the cafe standards for fuel mileage, so the Rotary can comeback to the states. As Will stated above, people are looking at mileage/economy, size and amenities. With the mating of the skyactive engines and transmissions both lighter and stronger I think Mazda will be fine and once the mileage standards are met, you will see the V6 make a return in the 6. I am sure once the Mazda 6 Coupe comes out(unconfirmed rumor) that you will see the V6 in it or a Speed Version. My take on this, nothing concrete of course, but what do I know!

You also have to keep in mind that the majority of these sedans (Accord, Altima, Camry, Fusion, Malibu, Mazda6, etc. ) are sold with four bangers under the hood. Very few people buy the V6 model anymore, save for maybe the Accord. People are focused on room and fuel economy. Very few people feel the need to have a more powerful engine in this segment. That's why Mazda isn't offering the V6 in the new car. Same with the new Malibu.

My mom actually wasn't happy with her 4cyl Equinox, and traded it in only a few months later for a decked out V6 model. lol

It was lacking in other areas too though. She bought it used, 2010 w/11k mi, and settled with it having cloth seats and no sunroof. Now she has a brand new 2012 with all the bells and whistles.

One thing that draws people toward V6 models is the availability of the fancy options that everyone loves. 4cyl models tend to be the boring ones... except for the Camry. That's just boring all day long.

I love the look of the new 6 and would replace the MSP with one if I had the money. I would prefer a diesel option for even better mpg's and I've read a rumor that it might happen but a $30k price is a little much for me.

I don't think they've ever made a v6 that got "good" mileage. But looking at their history, fuel economy has never been one of the big selling points. Fun-to-drive factor always has come above that, which I think is more important. Apparently the rest of the market doesn't, haha.
