The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

I just don't like that I spent 1000 on a setup that just isn't made to race. They are very comfortable on the street but I will sacrifice comfort for performance. Hell won't we all?

What you guys get butt hurt easily ;)

LOL. I prefer to spend money on new parts to make my car faster...as opposed to spending money replacing parts that broke due to bad roads haha!

If you sell you current coilovers, how much do you think you'll get? I got the BC coilovers for about $1k.

Ya, I'm not really sure why. Most of them never step foot on a real race track, so BCs should be good enough for them LOL

That is what I don't understand about people that buy coilovers. Why buy them if you don't track them. Just get some springs and some camber plates and call it a day.

Yeah a person on facebook is offering me 850-900 depending on some refund they get. So if I can get that then I can add a few hundred to get something decent. I was thinking BC, Sonic, or V1&2's. I just can't justify V3's and jake said they are pretty intense

If you're looking at KWs, don't even consider the V1's as I believe they don't have damping control (like your current coilovers). Only the V2 and V3 have that ability. The BC coilovers will probably be the best bang-for-buck. I haven't read much on the Sonic coilovers so I can't comment on those.

They look really nice to me. And I haven't heard any issues with them. And for $999 its not a bad price either. I mean they come with a warranty

I thought the Mazdaspeed coilovers were just KW V3's with custom spring rates tuned for our car...or something like that. Maybe they're the V2s...can't remember. The Mazdaspeed coilovers are $1525 direct from Mazdaspeed (that's with the discount, originally $2345) though, which is a pretty good price.

I don't know, I'm weird. I like to just use brand names I know. I had BC's on the P5's and liked them so I stuck with them. I couldn't justify spending the extra money on the KW's when my car will rarely see auto-x or track days. I considered the H&R's as well but found a YouTube video of an MS6 with them the the owner said they are way too soft for track use. You MS3 guys are so lucky you can easily adjust your damping for the rear.

And a lot of coilover reviews are just how low they will go. Or it's the reviewers first set of coilovers so they are "the best thing in the world!".

Personally, I would stay away from the Sonic brand. Even if it is just a different color of BC or Yellowspeed.

They look pretty nice. The same front spring rates as the BC coilovers and the rear spring rates are 55 lb/in higher than the BCs. Check out the suspension guide on the MS forums

As you may remember...that's only after cutting the metal in the rear so you can actually rotate the adjustment knob HAHA!!

I'm reading a few reviews of them now and so far no compalaints. Lots of guys autoxing and tracking these. I mean the BC's are nice but I've also heard the quality isn't there and sometimes need replaced often.

I'm not sponsored by any suspension brands and not trying to sway you one way or another. The best thing to do is ask locals about their coilovers. People you know are honest and at least have a little idea of what they're talking about. #2's been on his BC's for at least a year now without issues. My last set of BC's on my Protege were on 3 different Protege's without any issues. No issues with my current BC's even though they are only a few months old.
