The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

Probably was saved in your profile when you registered for the event. They just don't throw you in there ;)

I wasn't registered as a novice since I ran it over a year ago with my black P5. Not sure why I'm in there. Not that I care, just curious how I got switched over.

I heard the announcer say "I don't know how white can be an ugly color...". haha

LOL. Being a Miata, I need to figure out a way to mix velocity red with rainbow glitter

Haha I'm not sure everyone would get that one. I like flaming red glitter.

I may have the opportunity to sell my coilovers. What should I buy that would be better in my autox and track days?

If you can foot the bill, KW V3s are really good. I wanted to get those, but couldn't afford to spend more than $1k at the time. I may eventually sell my BC coilovers and get the KW V3s if I get more competitive and do NASA Time Trials one day (at least a few years away haha). I like my BC coilovers and they work very well on-track as well as for daily use.

Why would you sell you coilovers? Just get different spring rates. Run a higher spring rate in the rear and lower in the front. If you want it streetable get some 450's for the rear and 375's or 400's for the front. The more difference in the front than the rear will help with rotation. Just depends how stiff you want them to be. I run 600 front and 600 rear, but I have trailing arms, and a rsb that is basically maxed. Plus running a wider tire in the front and a skinny tire in the rear with more air pressure helps with rotation as well. I need to mess around with the rear pressure some more. to have it rotate a little more so I can carry some more speed threw turns.

I would like to be able to carry more speed too but on H&R's there is no adjustments other than height I can mess with. I mean I will only if this person gives me the right price. I just want something that is better out of the box

Mine don't have any damping besides race car mode :) I'm surprised with as much street driving I do I haven't blown the struts yet. Crap roads and stiff springs do take a toll on the other suspension parts over time. Ball joints and steering parts take a beating and need replaced more often. The last time I took my car into the shop my friend that works their couldn't believe that I drive it on the weekends around here let alone the other days out of the week.

It looks like Patrick wants the ability to control his damping. I like the ability to control that because I can keep it on the softer side for daily driving. Then I stiffen them when I race.

What you guys get butt hurt easily ;)

I would do what Corey said as long as the coilovers can handle the stiffer springs. Otherwise, get a set of Koni Race, coilover sleeves and 3 sets of springs: 1 for the front, 1 for rear autox and 1 for rear daily\track. You don't want the car to rotate too much on track, at lest not yet. This will be a better compromise since the car is still driven on the street quite a bit, and will give you good performance on autox and track.

Your rear springs are easy enough to swap before and after an autox.
