The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

Just talked to a friend, he said that the NEOHIO solo reg. will be up by the middle of next week on Motorsportreg.com

Huh, while looking up what class the MS6 will be in I found the KL swapped P5 would stay in SMF.

"Street Modified – This is the top tier of the “street” classes. This class allows
engine swaps as long as the engine is made by the same manufacturer
car. You may also add turbo/superchargers, camshaft upgrades, and any
suspension upgrades as long as it uses the factory attachment points."

Don't worry about what class you would have been in, what class are you going to be in?

Sticking with SM. I could run ST with my mods but it will be more fun to run with my friends. I'm not competitive anyway.

Marc, what would you suggest for my tires. Though I think I already know the answer...

I've got a set of 215/45-17 used Conti DW's and a set of used Conti Contact 235-45-17. I've already got a used set of Nitto NT-o1 215-45-17's mounted on my Enkeis. Which tires should I run the auto-x and Mid-O track day with? I know you'll say switch to the 215/45-17's and run them to learn on street tires. But will a track day burn up these tires in the day? I've got the Nitto's wrapped around my Enkei's for at least 2 years now and only used them on one track day so I would rather burn those up. Otherwise I'll have to get them switched around at a shop.

Thoughts?

I know you asked Marc, but I will answer anyway and say use up the NT01s. :) They aren't super different from a really sticky extreme performance summer tire, and they still provide plenty of feedback near the limit. Also, no you won't use up street tires in a day unless you're doing something really funky.

with ms6 you'll be battling with a lot of understeer. Slow-er in, gun it out - that's the only way to stay competitive. If you are coming in hot, you'll never get 'dat @ss' to swing. Unless you are planning on using your ebrake, of course. But I'll suggest against that until you know what to expect from the boat.

Although, I did autoX before RSB. I'm sure that will help you quite a bit.

I agree with Will use the Nittos for track and Auto-x, save your other tires for daily duty. Are you going to run on Sunday June 9th @ LLCC? Its a good way to knock off the rust before hitting Mid-Ohio the next day.

Slow in, fast out. :)

I love this and want to put it in my sig, but it doesn't really fit the MSP :) You'll score a better PAX index in ST, but if you are in it to just to have fun and compete with friends then SM is where it is at.

Thanks for the advice guys, that questions was for all of you as well. :)

I will run the NT-01's then and burn them up. Well, slowly burn them up. I want to go slow then increase my speed gradually over the day. And Yep, I'm going to LLCC. I was there last time with Peaches to help him load up the MSP so I might as well run while I'm there again.

Fez, I'll be installing the Whiteline RSB with my coilovers at Marcs next week so hopefully that will help. Did you turn your DSC off for your track day?

I don't know what DSC is, but if it has anything to do with stability control or traction control, I'd advise NOT turning it off until you know how to recover yourself without it. All the instructors will tell noobs to leave it on ... just sayin' : ) (that's for Mid-Ohio at least)

When I drove cars with DSC I would shut it off at autox's other wise the car is dead ass slow. I never ran on the track with any. car that had DSC, in the 1979 RX -7 I am the DSC.

I'll say turn it off for both autocross and track but be careful. Don't go thinking you're Ayrton Senna on your first track day. You'll learn more without the computer there to save your ass.

Per Randy Pobst, until you know your and the cars limits, keep the all of your drivers aids on while tracking your car. Good advice from one of the best drivers I know.
