The official Review Thread

Ha! Great review. The CR-V is "fussy". (rlaugh)

The CX-5 is hardly the most exciting vehicle on sale, and certainly not even the most fun-to-drive Mazda on sale, but there's something heartening about it. Compact crossovers don't need to drive all that well in order to sell in big numbers, but Mazda still sees the value in making the CX-5 as sharp as can possibly be.

This is a car built to satisfy corporate bean counters by nature of its existence, but one engineered by true enthusiasts.

Well stated. It's a CUV, so of course it's not the most fun Mazda on sale, but hot damn, it's a CUV that retains some level of driving fun unlike the rest of the CUV market. This seems to be a point lost on the all or nothing fruit man.

So in Australia, the CX5 is rated for 4000 lb braked towing and the Tiguan is rated for 5500 lb.

Also, in the video he mentions the CX5's "sky high" resale value. Thought that was interesting.

Indeed on both counts.

Petrol and diesel CX-5 have the same towing rating

Pulling out of a parking lot and was stick behind a Tiguan for awhile. That thing is ugly AF. I think I'd take the CR-V over that.

Tells me it's frame and/or tranny limited. Diesel will just perform better while towing. I should be more than fine with my ~1200lb trailer plus gear either way ;)

I'd take a CX-5 over both as they are both ugly AF. ;)

Yeah there is a Tiguan in the office parking lot. It is very ugly. But I don't know, I still find the myriad of CR-Vs in the parking lot extremely ugly.

There are 4 other CX-5's here. They are all lookin' sharp, except maybe the Blue Reflex one. I really don't like that color. (dance)

"The interiors are nice, but luxury also tends to equal quiet, and I don't know how extensively they've addressed noise in the cabin," said Joe Wiesenfelder, executive editor. "The CX-5 went from one of the worst to one of the best [in our recent compact SUV test], but I can't speak to the other models. Historically, noise has hurt Mazda in Challenges."

The interior is much quieter than previous models and the direct competition. I wonder if they even drove the thing.

I think he's referring to the CX-5 GT vs other trims. It's typical on many manufacturers to reserve the full sound deadening tech for the top trims (acoustic windshields and side glass, noise canceling speakers, extra sound proofing, etc). He's just saying that on the GT it's much quieter that the old models, but without knowing if the same changes were made on all trims the lower trims could potentially be louder.

Than the author should do better investigative reporting...
