This is one of those threads where if you claim to be functional, but run a -5 deg camber so you can make your 22x10's make your ass get to work, while scraping everything in site and shooting sparks from your undercarriage at every bump or roll under semi trucks.... GTFO.
We run setups so we can, and I quote my favorite thread troll, "Dumb s*** like going fast around corners." or something similar.. Claiming you have hellflush/illest/stance/offset/somename while complaining about potholes, bumps, speedbumps, going slow over anything, or "I broke my _________(part) here" and complain about how it's their fault vice your setup, is just not functional.
I think, along with some others I have talk too, that people have forgotten the reason of this thread. It has been completely skewed to the point of people thinking, "Well, I put this "xxxxx item" on my car and it still gets me to work so it's functional." I think if people should post in this thread, they should post why they have their setup and why it's functional to them. Saying something ridiculous of it gets them to work or anything of the sorts happens, to cry when the majority here say you aren't functional. Either that or they get told no from the slammed thread and come here for solace.
There are a few people here who do mods to cross the line of both. chefSpot is one. He swapped his stock MS3 rims for 19's which were lighter. If you don't know why, then look it up. Rotational Weight vs Unsprung Weight.
As far as functional for me:
I ran, along with others here, an event at Road Atlanta where we had a nice high speed run around the track. Straight a ways, turns, hills, etc.. all at high speeds and legal. I told my passenger that I was holding back because I could tell that the limit of the car was the suspension. I had it set too soft for the track and what we were doing. Was I functional for that event? No. But I given a quick break and a slight adjustment, I could have easily been more functional for the event at hand. However, for the people I was running with I was keeping up just fine and the group of 4 Miatas we had were leaving a BMW M3 behind.... A lot.
