Another post in this never-ending thread:

Don't worry about remnant drops of non-synth oil when you switch over to synth oil. It will do no harm.

Well for the non-dying thread, I hear what everyone is using in there 3's but what about the speed 3s. I know I plan on switching to synthetic but I'm wondering what weight and type to go with. I used to use royal purple in my 240 but I'm curious as to what other owners are going with.

I need to do my first oil change in the Speed3 (I'm at 1200 miles). So, what has everyone else done on the first oil change? Gone to the dealer? Jiffy Lube? Do it yourself? With synth-blend or synth or regular oil?

If you don't plan on trading your car in for something else in the next 6 months, stay away from jiffy ;) I would find a local to help you if you aren't able to DIY, or locate the how-to for it.

Going to the dealer - the sevice tech said that they'd put in whatever synthetic I wanted and when I said 'Mobil1', he said that's what he'd recommend too. Also, I asked about changing the oil with 'only' 1200-1300 miles and he said that's no problem. I'm having them change the oil early because I'm already having to go in for a CEL that I threw the other night and the dealer is 45 minutes away :( When I move to LA, there should be a plethora of nearby Mazdaspeed dealers, though.

Just wondering if you mobil1 users have had problems with the oil disappearing on you?? mobile1 synthetic was way too thin for use in my subaru wrx and in the sti's. has anyone had issues like this using the mobil1 synthetic in there MS3's?? also realistically how long can you wait before you really need to change the oil on the these cars?? thanks.

You can go 7K between changes if you change the filter half way through. Its just easier to dump the oil and do a change at 3K.

The mazda sealer was recommending 6K on my service tag thingy. Thing is, these cars run so rich, the fuel gets flushed down past the rings into your oil. Smell your oil in your ms3 while your changing it, its heavier than the avg car with gas fumes. much better to keep the oil change at 3K

I changed over to Mobil 1 5W-30 at 5K. I'm taking an oil sample at 8K and having it analyzed. It looks like direct injection engines can be pretty hard on oil, with dilution by fuel being the main culprit. The BMW N54 twin turbo I6 and the Audi RS4 NA V8 appear to be the worst offenders, with the Mazda DISI turbo I4 not too far behind. I'd like to be able to go 5000 with a good synthetic, but that might not be possible.
