im pretty sure the 2nd synchro is going in my car i can no longer do any shifts at high rmps. every other gear is fine. i tried looking into some options and ive seen revised sychros mentioned but i cant find any more info on that. does anybody know anything about these? any information will be helpfull

Im probably going to be rebuilding my clutch soon and that is one of the things being replaced.

i acctually just put my tranny back in after taking it out because of a third gear grind. when i got the transmission apart i found third gear syncro had teeth missing. the blocker ring seemed fine but i put new syncro in and 3rd and 4th blocker ring in and it shifts good now. take it apart find out what you need and get it from mazda they will know about the most updated parts and all that good stuff. but you might want to get it fixed before it gets bad like mine and you have to replace the syncro and not just the blocker ring. blocker ring=$40 syncro assembly=$200. if you have any questions let me know i will try to help

ok lets start with how hard is it to do? ive never torn a trans apart before so itl be my first time if i cant find a shop to do it for a resonable price. the only problem im having is with shifting into 2nd at higher rpms about 4.5k or more. if im driving it normaly i have no issues. anything else that could cause it? id just rather not do it if i dont have to. i do know my slave cylinder is bad and it needs a gear oil change but id just rather get stuff pieced together and have it done before i lose 2nd all together if it is in fact the synchro. excuse my ignorance ive never dealt with transmissions. i have replaced a clutch before atleast

Have you tried new gearbox oil? I changed mine to mobil 1 sythetic and it was grinding from 2nd to 3rd at high rpm, decided after two days to drop it and change to pennzoil synchromesh and now i can say that it doesnt grind at all. It may be that the mobil oil is to slippery for the synchros in this box. Anyway good luck and do a write up if you end up doing you synchros as i think a lot of people here would be interrested.

Ill try a gear oil change when I have the time how much did the penzoil synchro mesh cost? Ill have to find a book that has detailed info on rebuilding the trans before I try it

if your slave is bad i would change that too because if the clutch is not fully disengaging then you can be wearing out the blocker rings faster too

Till you fix it you can pause with the shifter in neutral between the gears and wait a second or 2 before going into gear. If you get the timing right, it'll be OK, even if the synchro is totally gone.
