I have a 2000 Protege LX we got new. For it's time it had great handling, and still does, but the newer Proteges I think have better set ups. My car has 48,000 miles on it, and is now my daily driver. Wheels will be 17" Racing Hart CP8s in the summer, and 15" Rota Group Ns in the winter. I need a suspension that makes the car corner like it's on rails, but not lower it too much because I think Baghdad has better roads than Baltimore. I have been looking at some Eibach Pro Kit springs, as well as some Mazda Speed springs, but I have heard they require the MSP struts. My budget is maybe from KYB GR-2/Tokico blues----to maybe illuminas. I also plan on getting some kind of strut tower bar, don't know what one yet. Trunk is for cargo so no rear bar. Maybe some thicker sway bars? Any suggestions for a tight, but civilized daily driver?

I will respond to this since I am bored at my Dads house with no hardrive for my xbox to play XBL, but you can use search to find all these answers. Anywaysssss, this is what I think you need. Tokico blues dropped on the real racing beat springs. They offer a very mild drop, but the greater stiffness of the springs combined with the tokicos will equal great handling on the car. You can go the cheaper used route and just pick up a MSP/MP3 springs + struts combo. The strut tower bar is a really simple mod that stiffens the front of the chasis pretty well. You can find them on ebay pretty cheap, on the forums, or brand new from vendors. The thicker swaybar is another good pick. Just make sure you have the reinforced endlink tabs on the tokicos before you install the swaybar because the tabs may break on the stock struts.

two things...
try to get the GTSpec trailing arms
you don't know how much the stock arms flex till you swap in the GTSpec arms ...no joke
try to get the GTSpec ladder bar and lower tie bar
the car is a ton more predictable with this set-up
plus you gotta drop the sub-frame anyway to do the swaybars
make that three things...
roll your caster to max on the upper strut mounts
the car needs it ...way better feed back through the steering

I have been debating the Tokico blue vs. Tokico Illuminas. The blues are cheaper, but good. However, I have the Illuminas on my CR-X and love them, and they have a lifetime warranty, don't know if the blues do. They have more tunability, since this is a daily driver I can set it soft for daily, and stiffen it up for weekend retreats. I thought it was a pretty good deal since he took my best offer deal. I get 4 springs, sway bars, a strut bar, and pay shipping once. Not bad for a commuter. So if I get he MSP struts it will sit normal? The front will be higher with the blues? Are the perches set up differently?
I killed it? Is that good or bad? I have whatever the 2000 LX came with, so I figured a package deal of more than what I have is good. The stock 2000 LX doesn't handle so bad to begin with, but will be better.
