Supercharger??

the strain on a forced engine is probably because of your lead feet when you feel the power! the pressure on the pistons from the P.S.I. actually helps dampen and push the pistons back on their down stroke so during daily driving (easy driving)your probably more likely to blow your turbine from not letting it cool via a turbo timer or letting the car idle before turning it off from over heating or oil starving the bearings. this is what I understood from a racing Pier of mine! let me know if i'm wrong

I've heard it both ways wheelguruuu..."Let the turbo cool down, it needs it."

"Turbos are desinged to handle heat, they can handle being run hard and put up wet"

I don't know. However, to explore the supercharger side of things, who is willing to lay down the cash on the Focus kit from Jackson and turn around and attempt to make it fit to the Protege?

I think there might be clearance issues on top of the charger but other than that, I wonder how much would need to be changed? The Focus kit puts the charger itself on top of the manifold. The Civic kit is underneath the manifold. HMMM...Any automotive engineers here with supercharger experience???

I'm definately down for a supercharger... in my opinion i think turbo upgrades etc. are only best for cars that have stock turbo's .. unless you have enough money to blow to bullet proof your engine.. besides if you dont bullet proof your engine, your gaskets etc. will wear much faster.. so a supercharger would be the best in my opinion.. man i wish a company would make an sc for our cars now

2001 MP
Blitz Nurspec R muffler
Custom exhaust pipes
Custom engine dress up and paint

Just cause they do hehe. I am too tired to list all the pros and cons. You can make a SC car respectable, but I bet you will spend a hell of alot more $$ doing it. Turbos are alot more versatile.

Yeah but for peepz with a budget i think sc might be the way 2 go ..they can be tweaked and are more reliable than turbo have diff pro's and cons though... im only 18 and im not making lots of loot and dont wanna spend 3000 2 bullet proof my engine and another 5 g's to install a turbo kit... what everyone else think? need money fasttttt :(

Whoever told you that you have to "bullet proof" your engine with a turbo is an idiot. Honda engines can run 15 or so pounds of boost on a stock bottom end. My mechanic has a civic with a B18A (first gen Integra engine) that he ran 18 psi on. It ran fine for a while, then he blew the head gasket and the cam seals. Our engines should be able to hold 10 psi easy, thats plenty for the street. That should give you about 260 @ the engine.

Also, whoever told you SC's are cheaper, is an idiot. You can piece together a great turbo kit just like spoolin alot cheaper than you can a SC, and any decent shop will only charge you about $500 for the install. Thats what they charge here.

SC's only make max boost at redline, and most SC's only make 5-6 psi. With a good ball bearing turbo, max boost is usually about 4k rpms all the way to redline. Turbo reliability is very good. I have driven a few turbocharged cars and the only problem I have seen is an intercooler pipe blowing off, simple fix.

But don't take my word for it, ask people like spoolinMP3 or Corky Bell or Thomas Knight, they will tell you the same, turbo is the way to go.

i personally am not looking for really fast car to take to the tracks or anything but i definitly would like some more power. My main concerns are money and reliability if i drop 4g's on a turbo i will be broke and if any thing goes wrong im ******. not to mention i put a lot of miles on my car so i cant have it breakin on me since i need to rely on this car for the next few years. Also im only 18 and have a very limit budget.

as am I......and everyone that I have talked to says to go for the supercharger.

With a turbocharger i know you can't use any aftermarket parts like headers, CAI, etc... i want to start modding my car now and if i planned on SCing my car instead of turbo does anyone know what you can mod your car with... i know someone said that the CAI can be used..plus is N20 safe with a SC?

i know u can buy A header since a supercharger doesnt use the exhaust like a turbo,. i dont think u can use the CAI I would assume that the supercharge would come with its on the comes out of the supercharger. so i wouldnt buy.
