Just checking in. Been living in Chesapeake for about a year now (moved from SoCal). Just picked up my MS3 on saturday the 24th. A GT in true red with the aluminum fuel door the only other option.
Traded in an '05 SRT-4 for it. It was a great car and very quick with only Mopar's stage 1 and a few other very minor mods and tweaks. A few things prompted me to sell, first of which is that my wife and I found out a month ago that we have a baby on the way (thumb) so the hatchback body style and additional crash safety features + altogether stronger frame and crash worthiness of the MS appealed to me.
Hopefully no one will hate on that car though as I loved that car and really the only things I didn't like were the typical american economy car rattles and squeaks from the interior, and the generally very bad service at the Dodge dealerships whenever I'd take it in. The ones I'd been to were mostly Nazi's who like to give a hard time for ANY mods done on those cars. Lastly was the attention that car tended to draw with it's loud popping exhaust... sounded cool but at nearly 30 years old I think I've outgrown that kind of thing
I did have the wing removed so at least visually it flew under the radar from all angles but the front.
The MS3 is great so far, feels almost as quick as the SRT but more solid, quieter, definately heavier feeling. It does feel like I've given up a little overall performance and hope to adress that ASAP with the CAI and maybe a few other bits. Handling is great on the MS, it seems more predictable in turns, but the suspension seems to compress and the car lean more in really hard turns. It handles mid turn bumps/dips better and doesn't get unsettled like the SRT could though, and even if it leans more, I can tell the chassis itself is more stiff. Biggest thing I like over the SRT is the very direct steering, with the Bose stereo a close second. Biggest thing I think I will miss is the 'viper style' seats of the SRT... the MS3's thigh bolsters are just too soft and don't hold you in well enough for the type of handling this car is capable of. I have to brace myself against the door.
My biggest hope is that after a couple years the MS doesn't develop the rattles and such which really drove me nuts in the SRT. Oh, and that the MS will have as much potential and respond as well to mods, though I dont' plan on anything crazy or anything that would mess up my warranty.
Ah well, just wanted to say what's up. I do cruise to Jenro's up on Independence on some Saturdays when the weather is nice for the big car gatherings there and have already seen a couple other MS's there (another red one and a cosmic blue one). Maybe Ill see some more of you guys there some time.
