Hello All,

Today I talked to Jim of Sunbelt Performance located in Georgia. First off do not rush to call him or the company they are busy working on Rodger Foo's racing motors. But according to my friend Tomas Potter they are 100% awesome with the bp motors and our fs motors.

They will be releasing very soon several performance parts for the 2.0L Proteges.(ES, MP3 and MP5) So start saving your money.

To be realesed soon:

Mazda Street CAM 400 US dollars for the pair. These produce much more power to redline then the s20 cams.

Adjustable Cam Sprokets 250 US dollars. They will be the only company to offer these. Oh these are on Rodger Foo's Racing Protege 5.

Bigger brakes for up front. No price yet.

They will also have stiffer strut bars and more to come.

Also Tripoint sells the front black lips for about 600 dollars. They go under the motors to the fire wall. Helps block debrie away from the motor.

They will have their web page updated soon.

Sounds awesome, but they have a pretty lame website right now. We'll have to see what happens... but in any case, you're right about saving money for upgrades!

OH hell yeah. Hey everybody I think the ball is finally start to roll :D Be pretty good if they where to make headers too, and maybe a 65mm throttle body, fuel rail, bigger injectors, 180 degree thermostat, I would be so happy if they made all that I'd probably wet my pants no just joking well maybe :D Hey Glow talk to them again and see if they can produce some of the parts I just listed. We need every one of those parts and then some just to tap into this motors potential aight Later ;)

No Problem I will talk with them. Also I am meeting with them on july 19th thru 21 in washington, D.C for the Speed Channel challenge at RFK stadium. They set up a road coarse for le mans, trans am, also their is a celebrity race. Go to
www.speedvisionwc.com/
Look up Washington D.C or Cadillac sponsored the race.

Yep, it'll be nice to see how the Proteges do this race. They have steadily done better every race.

If we get the cams now to ADVANCE the timing, we could use them later with our turbo setups to RETARD the timing, right? And this would make it so we didn't need any computer tweaking?

Even better, we could get the timing spot on for stock and not have it so screwy as it is.

There is a world of room for improvement in the Protege's cam profile. It would be nice to know more about the cams like lift, duration, base circle and such. Since $400 is a lot cheaper than custom grinds, I'm very interested. The fact is though, the stock springs won't support too much agression, so I'd hope they do springs too. But than again it does say 'street cams'. Either way, It's nice to know adjustable cam pulleys are in the works.

I know they will sell springs. The stock springs should handle up to a 400 regrind cam. Over that you will need springs, valves and even heavier lifters.

With Turbo you can use street cams but you will have to cut down on boost. Yes adjustable cams will help out alot.

A source told me that on stock cams with the adjustable cam sprokets there was an 8-10hp gain. The only thing hey did not say was which the numbers of degrees or which was advanced and which was retarded. They also notice Sports 20 cams had an increase as well with the Adjustable cam gears. Lets say they got their full power surge like JAPANs real Sports 20.

Foo's car in Washington should be producing over 240HP or more.
I cannot wait for these races in July.

No Rodger Foo is not Turbo. Pick up Sports Compact Magazine this month (AUGUST issue) they have a list of the engine mods. They are all internal. Beside the head being port and polished. It has 13 to 1 compression. A redesigned intake not like ours. Just get it.
ALL MOTOR MY FRIEND.

Not my car FOO's Car Built by Sunbelt performance.

I think I know what kind of cams there going to come out with. If u have ever wanted to buy cams u had to pick where u wanted the power to start and where to end in the rpm limit another words staged cams. I am pretty sure these cams will end up being stage 2 cams and they will probably have the same base numbers as the crower for the Focus ZX3. If that is so that would be great. The power hits around 2500 all the way to 6500 redline. Let me just tell you if you would like to know more about that cam profile just go over to the ZX3 webchat cause these guys are raving for these style cams. Of course these cams will give up a little low end torque but the high end h.p is well worth the loss. Can't wait till they come out with them

Either can I. I will take a look at those specs on the focus crowler cams. For Those Who Will Ask. No Focus Cams Do Not Fit Into Our Motors. Just Looking At The Specs.

The stock springs may support the compression of a 400 lift, but Im sure theyre not a high enough rate to prevent float at high RPM. Beyond the springs, I think the ECU will limit the cam aggression with its screwy ignition curves. Thats why full specs would be nice. And dont compare to the ZX3, thats like apples and oranges. Also, stage numbers are more for indicating the degree of engine modification necessary to support the cam. Real tuning only works when you use raw numbers, but cam designers dont often share this info. Thats why Crower does such a big business with custom grinds, and adheres to a strict privacy policy.

If Sunbelt will let us know the lift, duration, lobe center and overlap that would be sweet. From there it is easily to calculate max RPM, head flow, possible C/R, and most important controller optimization.

The Protege FAQ has the the stats for the stock profile on the cams, and the FS-ZE motor intake and the Mazdaspeed exhaust cams...

That'll give you base, and you can probably figure that the Sunbelt cams will be more aggressive. Also, if you want better vavle springs, the FS-ZE motor supposedly has stiffer springs, you can buy them through Mazda Motorsports I think.
