Subwoofer?

I think it is actually something like 5 1/4 inch.

I think that's more likely. Bose speakers themselves are usually small and actually pretty crappy paper cones. The thing that makes the bose systems sound fairly decent is the enclosure design and the fact that the power to each speaker is matched to the speaker. Most cars send power from the HU to the speakers and most bose systems have seprate amplification for each speaker.

For that reason if you turn your bose up loud for a few years you are going to pay out the ass to replace it. If you buy aftermarket you'll have to rewire the car and if you buy factory replacements they'll be way overpriced. Good and bad reasons for owning a car with Bose..

Im getting an infinity basslink it works perfect and is already powered. amp and sub in one neat package for $300 250 watts!

I had a small powered sub added to my Bose system. Just spliced into line level inputs, ran power, and voila! Now it sounds like it should have in the first place.

Do you remember which wires it was that you tapped? Did you tap them at the sub? Or behind the HU?

If you were to change the bose sub out for an aftermarket one your probably not going to be able to use the factory amp. I know on just about every other factory setup like that you will fry subs all day long with the factory amp. Thats if you can even get a usable signal from it. Its a pain in the ass, and its pretty gay too. If you want somthing that gonna put out good sound and not take up the whole trunk i would recomend a DD 8" sub. This thing is bad ass. I had a concept 12" in a 3 cubic foot box before...and it took up too much trunk space. I have the DD 8" and its as loud and the box is .75 cubit ft. And only like...450watts rms goin to it. They swear by this sub, and its only $135 or sumthin for the sub. Heres a link anyways...

i would think that if you do have the bose system and u are going to install an aftermarket sub in the rear of your car that the best way to go about it would be to forget about the tiny sub under the passenger seat and either get rid of it or disconnect it. If u havent already paid the extra money for the gt model and plan on upgrading the car with more bass, then just save your money and get the stock model and use that extra money to get a 3x better system. I cant remember how much it is, but i believe its over a 1000 dollars more for the bose system. I took that money and got a jlw7 and amp (no new door speakers yet with amp) and there is bass to spare and sounds AWESOME!

There is one advantage to the Bose system which I have mentioned before. It has line-level outputs which are perfect for connecting aftermarket amps. Pull out the bose amps and speakers and go all aftermarket except for the head unit. Given the choice with my MS6 GT I would have probably opted not to have bose but at least I get something out of it.
