Subwoofer Ideas/Help?

:
2002 Mazda P5
Well I have a Pioneer deck DEH-P5900IB and I wanted to add a sub to the car, and wasn't sure if I should go with a Pioneer sub or a Kenwood sub and I am guessing I will go with a 2channel amp also as I will only be running 1subwoofer also what else will I need beside the Sub,Amp,Box, Harness Kit?

To be honest I would wanna do it myself and try it for the first time, I asked a lot of questions about my deck as well but I finally figured it out and got it installed.
I'll just keep reading more cause I wanna learn I don't want anyone else doing it for me. I just wanna get my knowledge about cars up more

How much pwr do you plan on pushing? I don't think its going to make that big of a difference between the Kenwood and Pioneer if you are going to run just one sub. Are you thinking 10" or 12"? I have a 12" Polk Momo with too little pwr and its serves its purpose for me.

Crutchfield is your friend...They'll walk you through the whole process, from choosing subs to matching it with amps...etc...or you could go with a powered sub, which would already be matched to the amp...

Do it yourself, but be prepared to curse a bit and to drill a hole in your firewall..

Infinity Perfect is what it's called, i think it's a GREAT sub very clean sound and a pretty good price for what it really is.. Infinity makes good quality systems.. I used to have 3 10" JL W3's in my old protege5.. really good quality also, but a little pricy..

Peace,
RJ

Why would you buy a 2-channel amp to run 1 sub? Buy a single channel/mono amp to run a sub.

A bridged 2-channel amp is usually under powered and will run pretty hot with a decent sub attached.

Ive been on audio sites for the last couple days deciding my sub combo. i went with a 12" JBL GTO and a sealed box and got it all for $115shipped to me. The guys on the audio forum really love the JBL sub for the money!!! i got my sub today and the box will be here tomorrow. as for a amp you should just get a mono amp. something such as the Kicker ZX400.1 which will put out more then 400watts rms.

If you decide to get a mono amp theres one on ebay. Kenwood kac-x401m. Its great it if want to upgrade down the road b/c its 2 ohm stable and can pump out 1200 watts. Its a great amp!

Be careful with Crutchfield, I have seen them recommend a 4 channel amp for a DVC Sub and now the guy is having all kinds of problems with the amp.

No drilling through firewall needed as has been stated. If you need a bigger grommet, you can do what I did and take out the driver's side fender liner and follow the factory loom into the car. 1/0 GA fit through the rubber grommet easily.

Your best steps would be:

1. Establish a budget.
You will need: Amp, subwoofer(s), enclosure, Power kit (power, ground, and remote wire at the proper gauge for the current draw, and inline fuse), and RCA's (Do NOT skimp on RCA's as they are essential to a clean signal).

2. Listen to as many combinations with your OWN CD at as many audio shops (and people's cars) as possible to determine what kind of sound you are looking for.

3. Shop around.

4. Listen some more.

5. Buy.

The last time I did a real audio upgrade was on my 2000 Dodge Dakota. I went with Kenwood's #3 deck (cant remember the model #) Infinity Kappa Perfect component speakers in the front doors, and powered those wih a Kicker 350w amp. Those were the best speakers I ever owned! For my bass, I used an amped Bazooka tube(CS model). Man I wish that I had pulled that system before selling the truck!

Make sure to run the power wire down one side of the car and the speaker wires down the other. Running them down the same will cause the sound to be distorted.

Also, you may want to go ahead and invest in some sound deadening material to combat any rattles that may come out once you have everything installed.

Start out with your gain turned down and adjust up from there.

I have Rockford Fosgate door speakers and Infinity Perfects waiting to be installed in the back. Still trying to figure out if I want to glass an enclosure or build a tuned wooden encolsure.
